The Nintendo Switch Online App is now available for iPhones and Android devices. This App will, as of this Friday, be needed to connect and chat with friends for online matches, though the details and mechanics seem a bit involved (of course, we're a smart lot, so it will become old hat after a few goes I'm sure). So clear out those out-of-focus pictures of the kid or the pup to make room for this shiny new app that is bound to revolutionize online play. How's that for a hard sell?!?

I'm sorry but what's revolutionary about pushing away the online features that should be on the console directly instead to a smartphone? It's just more inconvenient if anything. If people really want to use their smartphones to communicate there's already the much better Discord app. It blows my mind that you'll need a smartphone to que up with friends in Splatoon 2....

@Rocky: There was some sarcasm there . . . I have faith in Nintendo, but the whole thing seems conceptually and physically convoluted.

For what it's worth, I never use the voice chat on my PS4 even though it's much less fussy to set up.
