Nintendo in Pop Culture

So I'm watching the Minnesota T-Wolves play the Oklahoma Thunder (NBA basketball) and guess what sound the Target Center plays everytime the T-Wolves score? Mario getting a coin!

It's not unlike the homage my iPhone gives to Metroid everytime I plug it in to charge (factory setting).

So what Nintendo references have you noticed in pop culture (and society in general)?

So I've actually known that for a while - and they actually only play the coin sound when the Wolves make a free throw. So it's not every shot, but only the made free throws by the home team :mario:

I had also meant to add that the following documentary movie was something I contributed to (during production in a kickstarter type of funding)... and is really awesome about arcade culture (history and present day). This is pop-culture-ish right? Anyone else here watch it?

Do we have another closet T-Wolves fan here? Love and Rubio play the game right (man are they great). And there you have it, I derailed my own topic, lol.

100 Yen looks cool (and pretty hardcore). Not the type of subtle reference I was thinking of, but hey they all count.

Would it be too obvious to reference Wreck-It Ralph? Plenty of Nintendo references, both subtle and in your face.

I'm in the car the other day and an ad comes on the radio. I recognized the music right away . . . the Polaris Snocross theme !!

OK, so maybe this isn't quite pop culture referencing Nintendo goodness (but the other way around); it was, after all, a (very rare) Polaris ad. Still it was fun to hear an audio reference to an underrated N64 title that I very much enjoyed playing for N64 Beats 'Em All.

Because making a video of an iconic Japanese toy to the sugary pop dance song Bunny Party--sung in German--is not random enough, they went ahead and threw in a Wii Mote with special powers: Hello Kitty Aventure
