Hybrid Heaven is your winner. It has been nominated many times, and made the vote off a number of times. It never could get quite over the hump.
I purchased HH about three years ago. It was a game that always intrigued me back in the day. truth be told I couldn't really get into it when I finally tried it. I remember getting stuck very early on in the game, and just moving on to play other stuff. For the time it came out, the game looked amazing. I was always a little bit irritated with myself for not giving it more of a chance. Perhaps this month....

Ha ha yes! I knew months of nominating the sucker would finally put it in the spotlight!

I've actually beaten this game for the first time only a few days ago. It was my second attempt after my first attempt got cut :pottymouth: (thanks, memory card corruption <_< ). While the game does have some flaws (average action-adventure sections, slowdown even without the expansion pak giving the game better graphics), the game's unique combat system was too good for me to care about it's shortcomings. Do you know how hilarious it was to tackle a monster and then put it in a figure-four leglock? I was shouting "WOOOOO!" every time the move did damage. The ability to create my own combos and learn moves from my enemies was just as fun.

And that story! I won't give much away, but here's three things you need to know:

1. This game's story is insane.
2. This game's story kept me interested from beginning to end.
3.
[+] Spoiler
President Weller is THE MAN!

Oh he may not look it when you first meet him, but you'll see what I'm talking about as the game goes on. My favorite President Weller moment is the last thing he does in the game. I won't say where it happens, though.
As someone who has never been a fan of the usual turn-based combat system in most RPGs (even in Pokemon, a series I enjoy), this was a refreshing change and one that I could not only stomach, but truly enjoy. The only sad thing about it is I'm pretty sure this is the only game that used such a combat system. :(

Hybrid Heaven has always intrigued me as well but I have never owned or rented it. Perhaps it will find its way into my N64 someday.

I am so happy this won. I absolutely love this game, if only for it's story and unique gameplay.
