What a great game to win our 4th anniversary Game of the Month contest!

I know we all have great stories regarding this game. It was such a staple on the N64, and some might even say it was the best game on the system. It certainly was in my top 3.

In the era it came out in, it was a very good looking game with top notch gameplay. Single player was a blast, and had so much replay value when cheats came in to play. I know I played the Facility level hundreds if not thousands of times over the years.

Multiplayer is where the game shined even more in my eyes. Nothing beat getting together with a group of friends and putting in a few hours. License to Kill was a favorite mode of ours, often with pistols as the weapons of choice. Power Weapons and Proximity Mines were also used a lot. The Cougar Magnum and RCP90 were my favorites.

My favorite story involving the proximity mines still makes me laugh to think about. I had a friend who was over a lot, but not so good a the game. We were playing the Facility. I put a proxy mine at all the major spawn points, then killed him. He died 5 or 6 consecutive times upon spawning on my mines. Needless to say, he quit from frustration

best action game ever, any system. a blue print to action adventure games, not just for FPS's.

the realism of the levels, with the limited hardware available, is unrivalled to this day.

i still think the dam level looks really dam good (no pun intended), maybe my favorite level ever. the concrete is a work of art in its own.

the amount of guns, the secrets, the hidden health packs, the many rooms that are optional, the endless replayability.

then the insane difficulty of 00agent. beating it for the first time felt like finally becoming a man.

the music, the atmosphere. i could run around in the levels just enjoying the scenery / music.

never will we have a FPS of this caliber again, not until the developers decide to bring back health packs / non regenerating health / unlimited gun carrying / cheats / optional paths / non respawning enemies / no QTE's / almost no movies / habing to read your own memos to understand the goal to the mission / the music / the abscence of handholding / and above all the return of british humour...

Goldeneye was so good they went back in time and made a movie about it.

I don't know where to start.
Such an influential and important game to so many people.

License to Kill, Pistols, 5 minutes, Random level.
This game still has it in multi player if played with people who are still into it.

I have so, so much more to add but I might wait till I'm back at work so I can type up properly instead of doing it on a phone ...

I've played through the game so many times before but I reckon I will play through it again.
Hehe, I remember as a kid, other kids would give me their copy of Goldeneye to unlock the cheats. :D

This game played a massive part of my childhood, me and my mates would spend hours playing it. I spent hours unlocking everything and getting the most out of this game. I looked forward to Perfect dark but somewhere it just wasnt as good to me.

I'm playing through it again now but I cant get passed the train level on OO agent these days let alone the Control level. I hate that level :bowser:

the best thing in this game is the controls. it's still as of today the best FPS controls to me. nothing beats the simplicity and position of the buttons.

You know I think the only reason I prefer Perfect Dark over Goldeneye is the ability to play with bots in multiplayer. Wasn't always easy to get together with friends, so bots were a great touch.

I haven't played many newer games, except for COD MW2 on PC, but I will say the regenerating health feature is kind of :pottymouth:.

I haven't liked many FPSs since that era but Wolfenstein: The New Order was quite good I have to say.
Minimal use of regenerative health and actually going around collecting armour and health packs.

You know, I've played very few console FPS games since GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. Not because they are lesser games, but because I fear if I get too used to dual analog controls, it will dull my GoldenEye skills.

Haha. It's seriously a point of stress when I start playing a game like Halo... and i feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it. I have to put the game down for a while.
