In the past, this award has recognized the best modern handheld game that calendar year. With Nintendo entering the mobile gaming market this year, it seems only fitting that we expand this category to include mobile games.

Each members may nominate one (1) game released in 2016 for any mobile or handheld system. After voting concludes, we will put it to a poll between the Top 3 nominees!

Prior Winners:

2015 - Majora’s Mask
2014 - Super Smash Bros 3DS
2013 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Pokemon Go?

Surely that doesn't count? ?
Just putting it out there in case it does count. ☺

@DJ Cat: It counts!

Pokemon GO! was surely the gaming phenomena of 2016, but my vote goes to the "game" I play daily...Miitomo. Its clever and ever changing and i really enjoy interacting with the folk here on miitomo.

Pokemon Go for me. No brainer. It took the market by storm. I still play it when I'm walking my dog. 105 Pokemon and counting! To be honest I'm not surprised at the drop out rates. People took it far too seriously obsessing when its best use is being used leisurely. When you finally get enough candy to evolve that Pokemon it's a great sense of achievement. Finally got Gyarados the other day! w00t!

I'm not a massive fan of handhelds ever since I put my Game Boy down after completing Pokemon Red in the 90s or early 2000s whenever it was. But this game has restored my faith a little bit.

I do really like Miitomo as well.
I was sceptical at first and might have been hot and cold in it for a bit, but really keen on it again, especially the latest major update was great! ?

Absolutely love catching up on what's up with everyone on it. And the aide Miis as well now!
Don't mess with Gilly!

Like last year, I didn't play too many handheld games (as far as 2016 releases go) and, while Pokemon GO did make my childhood dream of "adventuring" to find and catch Pokemon in real life come true (sort of... in a way...), I've come to realize that I will probably always prefer the full on experiences within thr main series. Getting badg- I mean Z-Crystals from gy- I mean trials and leade-I mean kahunas, being a part of a big plot and putting a stop to an evil organization with the Pokemon I raised through battling and refreshing.

That's why my vote goes to Pokemon Sun for Nintendo 3DS. While it's not my favorite Pokemon game of all time (that probably goes to either Y or Omega Ruby), it's easily in my top 5 and has convinced me that changing things up from the norm is not always a bad thing.

Ok, I'm going to at the final hour, make my nomination for Super Mario Run including being one of the ONLY games released in 2016 that I've played this year, I think it's very solid, well suited to the platform, and it still retains that easy to play, difficult to master feel that Nintendo seems to have perfected.

Hands down, without a doubt, Severed for the PS Vita. Easily one of the best Vita games available.
