so, DH and i met with dr g who did the hysteroscopy and said there was nothing in the uterus.

when we got there, she didn't have the MRI report, so she had secretary call and it was faxed over. this is what it said:

The uterus is anteverted and anteflexed. It measures 7.9 x 3.7 x 5.4 cm. The cervix is normal. The endometrial stripe measures 5 mm (day 2 of AF). There is a 2.3 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm INTRAMURAL FIBROID in the uterine fundus.

The left ovary measures 2.3 x 1.3 x 1.7 cm and contains small cysts and follicles. The right ovary measures 2.9 x 2.3 x 2.4 cm and contains small cysts and follicles, as well as a 1.7 cm corpus luteum cycst.

There is scant free pelvic fluid.
The bladder is unremarkable.
No bowel related abnormality is seen.
Impression: 2.3 cm fundal intramural fibroid.

Dr G said she did NOT see this on the hysteroscope and the SIS did not show any compression of the uterus at all. She stands firm on that. She said I don't need to take this out at all and that if it DID grow, it would grow out (away from the uterus) I asked her if I were your daughter what would you tell me and she said that she would assure her it doesnt need to come out. She thinks Dr B made a mistake and she said she will never go by another Drs report again. She told DH and I to go and get pregnant.

I just don't know. I don't know what to make of this, I'm F R I E D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are your thoughts? Does this type of fibroid need to come out?

Dont know what to say, but in any way I dont have a good feeling about Dr.G. IDK why.go get a second opinion and any other Dr instead of Dr.G would say the same thing, she is not going to say oh, I am sooo sorry, I was blind and I didnt see it how come its in a MRI?? I dont know much about fibroid. Does it mean urs is outside uterus?

yes its outside the uterus. she said it wouldnt interfere with getting pg or carrying a pg. i asked about drugs and IVF (i learned fibroids can grow from the meds, from estrogen...)she said if we are doing one round of IVF it would be okay. she encouraged us to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion about it if we wanted. she said there is NO way in a hystero you could see this, based on mine and that its very small. not sure if that is true.
she was very nice, not defensive. she just said she learned a lesson never to go by another drs report again.
still, dr b did a sis that she said fibroid was compressing the uterus. but dr G did the sis and says it wasnt.
who to believe? i can't therefore, im still
going to get a few more opinions for sure. friday, monday and looking still for a surgeon to evaluate and advise. i think thats the smartest thing at this point.
and i will have to take it from there.
she said to go ahead and try this month. just so not sure to do that.

I would get a second opinion. I would not trust what she says at this point. I agree that she will not outright admit she made a mistake. I know not all fibroids must be removed, actually I was told most people have them. I have one also. I do not know what kind, size, and location fibroids that must be removed.

I think I would get a second opinion as well. I'm sure you are so drained from all of this. I am so frustrated for you. I know for me though, I'd have a hard time trusting her now. Maybe it wouldn't interfere with pg but maybe it would. I'm having a laproscopy in a few wks because of cramping btwn cycles and some pain I've had ever since my loss a year ago. It may seem invasive to some, but I know for me, I need to rule everything out. Teresa, you have to do what YOU think is best. You and DH. I love all the women on this board and this has been a great source of comfort to me over the months, but I can sometimes get so swayed by what others are saying that I don't even know what I want anymore. That's just me though. Take some time and talk to DH. I know you will make the right decision whatever that may be.

First of all, this is ridiculously frustrating and I'm really sorry you're still dealing with this. I also don't know a ton about fibroids, but the "intramural" description in your report makes me think it's embedded in the lining somewhere, which could explain why Dr. G couldn't see it during the hysteroscopy. Each cm is about the width of the tip of your finger so 2.3 of those is not huge, but not tiny either. I keep going back to the fact that you seem to be able to get pg (a huge leg up you have on me!) but obviously you have had an issue with losses, and then you have this thing in the lining that some are saying could cause losses. For that reason I'd keep pursing this hard until you've gotten a really good expert to say it should or shouldn't come out. Hugs and so sorry again.

but...how does she figure that Dr. B made a mistake? It seems to me that Dr. B got it right!!! What am I missing? Frankly, as I said before..based upon my research on fibroids..and especially since you have had some losses..I think many Dr.'s would feel it reasonable for a fibroid that is in the wall of the uterus and is distorting the cavity to come out. Whatever the case..I would get another opinion. No way..no how would I go by this Dr.'s opinion....URGH!!

Teresa..I'm BEYOND confused. An intramural fibroid is a fibroid that is inside of the wall of the uterus. Subserosal fibroids, which is what I have, are on the outside of the uterus and yes...most people say to leave subserosal fibroids alone. An intramural fibroid is something else all together. I honestly do not know what Dr. G is talking about. It's one thing to say to leave the fibroid alone..but another to tell you that an intramural fibroid is on the outside of the uterus. I don't know..maybe I'm missing something...

I am drained and frustrated beyong words, i have cried every single day since august 17th 2011, every day, sometimes hours a day, but I have to find strength to keep going. somehow we do. we are ALL so strong. my god. You know, you've seen that I have my moments of "i cant do this another day" but I am going because I want to be A mother. I will go to my grave fighting for that. we all will. look at us!

so, yes, i am going to get a few more opinions. i pray these drs give me the right advice. i could not BEAR losing a 5th pg. i also dont want to have an unnecessary surgery especially with my age and the fact that ive already had so many procedures and surgeries. but i will if i have to. my batteries are recharged. its amazing how that works, i havent even gone to bed yet since yesterday.

i wish you GREAT LUCK with your lap. i hope the dr goes in and explores and if there is anything wrong, it can be taken care of very quickly and you can move on. i know what you mean about this board. i go on here more than any other website. i love every woman on here, like sisters you all are. we have to stay strong and when one of us is weak, we have each other to carry us through. thank you for writing to me!
thinking of you often and youre always in my prayers. every day. know that!
