Huge drop in AFC

Huge drop in AFC

Hi Ladies,

This morning I had an ultrasound to check for cysts before my next IVF cycle. (I've had 2 failed ones.) I'm currently on day 25 of my current cycle, in which I did an unmedicated IUI (Digital said "not pregnant" today at 12dpo - shocking.)

I was incredibly shocked during my ultrasound when the doctor said I only had an AFC of 4. Previously it's been anywhere from 8-10. (I last had an official AFC in February.)

Could it really have fallen that much in 3 months? My AMH has also fallen, but over a longer period of time. I'm 33.

Also, they have me on estrogen and progesteron to prep me for the IVF cycle. Would that effect AFC at all?

I am so depressed by this. I was just getting my hopes up for this cycle and I already feel defeated. Maybe it's time to throw in the towel? Today is one of those days where I feel like someone punched me in the gut; the unfairness of this situation is heartbreaking.

I'd be grateful for any advice, help, or kind words.

Thanks.

I wouldn't be too hooked on afc number. I have heard of so many success stories from ladies with no afc and ladies with afc between 2-4. You still have chance. Don't lose hope. I know its so frustrating.

I agree with the others. It seems that AFC also varies from month to month, and despite AMH supposedly being stable, it seems that number can also fluctuate some.
There is definitely still hope!

I think the AFC will be different on Day 25 versus Day 3 first of all. Secondly, I dont know if you know my story, but I am the mom of triplets with an AFC of 2. The most I ever had was 5. I know it is hard. Please know that 4 isn't a death knell!!
I really appreciate your message. I really hope that my AFC will be different on day 25 vs. day 3; I thought it would be, but when I said that to the RE, she said it wouldn't matter. But, as we all know, REs can be full of it....I'm 90% sure we're going to go to a different RE this next time around.

I actually just watched your "feeding triplet" videos via the pregnancy board - what an inspiration your story is! Here's to holding out hope!

..but when I asked the RE and her resident, they said it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. Very weird. But actually they did my other AFC on Day 26 and it was 10 - but I wasn't on estrogen at that time, which as Jaime said - may be surpressing me. Sigh. Maybe time not to throw in the towel, but get a new RE...

I really appreciate the kind words. I'm curious though, after you had the lower AFC, did you do anything different moving forward?
