I’m not a doctor nor do I consider myself one. This is information I’ve collected from studies, research and from those who study herbs. I highly recommend consulting a doctor or a professional before taking any of them. Please note that only some of the herbs listed below indicate whether or not they are safe for pregnancy. Please treat all as being unsafe until speaking about there usage with your RE or OB/GYN.

**Angelica (Dang Gui)— regulates menstrual flow (scanty flow) and aids in the lining of the uterus. Helps lowers FSH.

Alfalfa—Aids in pituitary problems. Works well with fertility drugs. Alfalfa is safe to take all cycle long.

Bee pollen—With royal jelly can improve or eliminate menstrual problems. Is rich in vitamins, minerals, nucleic acids, and steroid hormones. Strengthens pituitary gland.

Beechwood—For those taking Clomid or Serophene—Beechwood aids in CM and is an alternative to Robitussin. Can be found in most health food stores.

Black Cohosh—A natural supplier of estrogen. Black Cohosh should ONLY be taken from menstruation to ovulation

Blessed Thistle—is used when Black Cohosh isn’t tolerated.

Blue-green algae—Contains chlorophyll, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Strengthens pituitary gland. There are two types—Chlorella (from freshwater) and Spirulina (from saltwater)

Catnip—Elevates mood. Helps prevent miscarriages and morning sickness.

Cayenne—Increases the effectiveness of other herbs. Take from menstruation to ovulation.

Chaste Tree (aka Vitex)—Inhibits FSH & makes hormones more subdued. Regulates estrogen and progesterone. Vitex should be taken from menstruation to ovulation, though some women claim that it is beneficial to take all cycle. Great to take a few months before doing an FSH level test or CCT to help lower the results of FSH levels. **Works against Sarsaparille, Maca, Damiana, and infertility drugs including clomid!

Damiana—Inhances FSH & LH. Natural aphrodisiac.

Dong Quai—Is a hormone regulator and uterine tonic. It is known as the female hormone regulator. Dong quai should be taken in the first half of the cycle from menstruation to ovulation. **Not recommended during pregnancy

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)— is a uterine toner and helps to increase the fertile quality cervical fluid. Regulates menstrual flow (scanty, dark flow) and aids in the lining of the uterus. It neutralizes over-acidity in the body. EPO should be taken the first half of the cycle - from mensturation to ovulation.

False Unicorn— Lowers estrogen. Tones & strengthens the muscles of the uterus. Prevents miscarriage (especially when used with Lobelia). Used for all types of complications of pregnancy. Helps lowers FSH.

Ginkgo—Improves blood flow to the brain & pituitary gland.

Ginseng—Contains steroids similar to estrogen and progesterone. Aids in reducing stress. Helps lowers FSH. Regulates male hormones especially when taken with Sarsaparilla. Take from menstruation to ovulation.

Hawthorn—Helps prevent miscarriages.

Hops—Has estrogenic effects. Has a calming effect. **Can slow down sex drive.

Kelp—Great for the pituitary glands. Helps lower prolactin levels.

Licorice Root—It contains Estroil, an estrogen. Depresses the pituitary gland. Helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Take from menstruation to ovulation **shouldn’t be taken for long periods of time nor in large doses. Works against fertility drugs.

Lobelia—Prevents miscarriage. Works great with False Unicorn.

Maca—Enhances FSH & LH. Reduces stress.

Red Clover—Used to restore fertility. Take from menstruation to ovulation

Red Raspberry leaves—Strengthens the uterus and entire reproductive system. Helps prevent miscarriage.

Royal jelly— with bee pollen can improve or elimate menstrul prolems. Contains high amounts of amino acids, vitamins, and enzymes. Considered to be the queen bees equivalent of fertility drugs.

Sarsaparilla—It contains both male and female hormones. For men, it increases sperm count especially when taken with Ginseng.. For women, it balances female hormones, strengthens the pituitary gland and enhances both FSH & LH. Contains progesterone.

Saw Palmetto— may be beneficial for infertility, menstrual disorders, ovarian dysfunction, lactation, thyroid deficiencies, and painful menstrual periods. This herb is mainly used for male problems and have only found it to “may be” work for female problems.

Valerian root— does the same as wheatgrass. Very relaxing to the whole body.

Vitex—See Chaste Tree
Wheatgrass or Barley grass—helps the cervical mucus and uterus have the right ph balance needed for conception and implantation. Helps restores hormonal functioning.

Wild Yam—Increases progresterone. Prevents miscarriage.

*White Peony (Bai Shao)—regulates menstrual flow (scanty flow) and aids in the lining of the uterus.
*For those taking Clomid or Serophene--an alternative to Robitussin is (found in most health food stores).
Other Herbs
Lady´s Mantle is considered a reproductuve tonic. Take from menstruation to ovulation.
Camp Bark is considered a reproductive tonic. Take from menstruation to ovulation
Loveage is considered a general reproductive tonic. Take from menstruation to ovulation
Motherwort is considered a reproductive tonic. Take from menstruation to ovulation.
Nettle is considered a reproductive tonic. Take from menstruation to ovulation.

Vitamin & Minerals

Alpha-linolenic acid—important for ovulation. Aids in the egg release (from the follical) and allowing the development of the corpus luteum that is responsible for progrestrone production.

B6—a deficiency and cause low progesterone.

Coenzyme Q-10 (co Q-10)—Helps support and improve mitochondrial (the powerhouse of cells) function. As we age, the mitochondrial DNA is damaged by free radicals in our system contributing to poor egg quality occurring with aging.

DHEA—is a hormone building block that decreases with aging. It can be used in place of growth hormoneto help the ovaries respond. A study reported that taking 80 milligrams per day for 2 months improved response to gonadotropic drugs.
Note—don’t take for long periods of time. Women with elevated male hormones should not take DHEA.

Folic acid—important for cell division. It also can prevent spinal bifida.

L-arginine—Improves bloodflow to the pelvic organs. In a study, this amino acid was found to increase ovarian response, endometrail receptivity, and pregnancy rates in IVF patients who took 16 grams of L-arginine by increasing blood flow to the ovaries. It not recommended to take that much though.

Lecithin—B6. For pituitary gland. Its known for helping to normalize hormone levels which in turn helps to lengthen the luteal phase and to minimize PMS and morning sickness.

Magnesium—Low magnesium levels are accociated with low progesterone. Can lower the risk of premature birth, may reduce preeclampsia, cerebral palsy and mental retardation.

Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA)— a B vitamin which stimulates the pituitary gland and sometimes restores fertility to a woman. PABA affects the formation of red blood cells, and stimulates the production of folic acid in the intestines. Supplements of 300 to 400 milligrams daily has been found to prevent and correct aspects of some autoimmune conditions including infertility. Can has side effects such as skin rash.

Pantothenic acid—Is a B5 vitamin. Synthesizes hormones and cholesterol Improves the body's resistance to stress Deficiencies can cause infertility though being deficient is rare.

Pycnogenol or oligomeric proanthocyanidins—A super-antioxidants that helps prevent free-radical damage to cell mitochondria.

Selenium—an antioxidant that helps prevent free-radical damage to cell mitochondria. . A deficiency of selenium can lead to infertility in women.

Vitamin A—is an antioxidant that helps prevent free-radical damage to cell mitochondria.

Vitamins C—is an antioxidant that helps prevent free-radical damage to cell mitochondria.

Vitamin E—an antioxidant that helps prevent free radical damage to mitochondria (in cells). Is very important if you wish to conceive.

Zinc—is an antioxidant that helps prevent free-radical damage to cell mitochondria.

Additional notes--
Avoid stress as much as possible—women who have very high levels of stress have shown to be 93% less likely to conceive and have a live birth. Stress is one of the linked to miscarriage. Mediate, do yoga, massages, etc to reduce your stress.

Get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep can interfere with your hormones and body regeneration.

Avoid—Caffeine, Nicotine, and alcohol. All are said to reduce success rates in IVF treatment and may cause miscarriages.
Nicotine is found in higher concentrations in the uterine fluid (uterus). It causes the ovaries to age faster and the eggs resistant to fertilization. The percentage of IVF fail rate was high but I misplaced the information and don’t remember the exact amount.
Alcohol has been shown to reduce IVF success by 50%
There is conflicting data regarding Caffeine. It’s claimed to increase the risk of miscarriage.

Exercise moderately. Too much and too little exercise can lead to an imbalance of hormones.

Stay clear of chemicals.

I know how frustrating it is trying to figure out what does what and when to take them. I wish I had all this information two years ago when I begun seeing my ER. I want to help other by passing on the information I gathered for the past year.

Thank you so much for compiling this list, it is very nice of you. I tried Fertility Blend for the first time this month and it brought on my AF on day 19. I just don't know where to begin taking individual vitamins, there are so many to choose from and I'm not sure what dose to take? Any suggestions on where I should start? Do you take all these vitamins?

I had the same exact questions when I started researching the herbs. I wish I could tell you which is best for you but I can't because it depends on what your body needs. For me, I concertrate on increasing my Estrogen and FSH.
Some herbs are more popular, I think because some of them work better then others. Some can be very expensive.
Fertility Blend is great for trying to lower your FSH levels and balancing your hormones but not when taking fertility drugs.
The best doses is the amounts on the labels. Taking too much can cause undesirable side effects.
I take most of the vitamins and minerals regularly (dhea I only take in the beginning of cycle due to the estrogen effect and L-arginine tends to make me nausea).
Prenatals have most of the vitamins and minerals in them. Thank goodness!
Fertility Blend is a great start. It has some good things in it. FertilAid also is a good mixture.
Don't just take the ones that work on certain hormones though, you also want to aid the cells with things like wheatgrass, alfalfa (works great with meds), algae, etc. because they help better egg quality. The vitamins and minerals are also very important.
I tried to mimic my natural hormones by take herbs in a certain order--first taking herbs that aid in estrogen and fsh then change to taking only ones that aid in progrestrone after ovulation. I continue the vitamins and herbs that aid the cells throughout the whole cycle though.

Vitamin & Minerals

Alpha-linolenic acid—important for ovulation. Aids in the egg release (from the follical) and allowing the development of the corpus luteum that is responsible for progrestrone production.

B6—a deficiency and cause low progesterone.

Coenzyme Q-10 (co Q-10)—Helps support and improve mitochondrial (the powerhouse of cells) function. As we age, the mitochondrial DNA is damaged by free radicals in our system contributing to poor egg quality occurring with aging.

DHEA—is a hormone building block that decreases with aging. It can be used in place of growth hormoneto help the ovaries respond. A study reported that taking 80 milligrams per day for 2 months improved response to gonadotropic drugs.
Note—don’t take for long periods of time. Women with elevated male hormones should not take DHEA.

Folic acid—important for cell division. It also can prevent spinal bifida.

L-arginine—Improves bloodflow to the pelvic organs. In a study, this amino acid was found to increase ovarian response, endometrail receptivity, and pregnancy rates in IVF patients who took 16 grams of L-arginine by increasing blood flow to the ovaries. It not recommended to take that much though.

Lecithin—B6. For pituitary gland. Its known for helping to normalize hormone levels which in turn helps to lengthen the luteal phase and to minimize PMS and morning sickness.

Magnesium—Low magnesium levels are accociated with low progesterone. Can lower the risk of premature birth, may reduce preeclampsia, cerebral palsy and mental retardation.

Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA)— a B vitamin which stimulates the pituitary gland and sometimes restores fertility to a woman. PABA affects the formation of red blood cells, and stimulates the production of folic acid in the intestines. Supplements of 300 to 400 milligrams daily has been found to prevent and correct aspects of some autoimmune conditions including infertility. Can has side effects such as skin rash.

Get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep can interfere with your hormones and body regeneration.

Avoid—Caffeine, Nicotine, and alcohol. All are said to reduce success rates in IVF treatment and may cause miscarriages.
Nicotine is found in higher concentrations in the uterine fluid (uterus). It causes the ovaries to age faster and the eggs resistant to fertilization. The percentage of IVF fail rate was high but I misplaced the information and don’t remember the exact amount.
Alcohol has been shown to reduce IVF success by 50%
There is conflicting data regarding Caffeine. It’s claimed to increase the risk of miscarriage.

Exercise moderately. Too much and too little exercise can lead to an imbalance of hormones.

Stay clear of chemicals.

I’m not a doctor nor do I consider myself one. This is information I’ve collected from studies, research and from those who study herbs. I highly recommend consulting a doctor or a professional before taking any of them. Please note that only some of the herbs listed below indicate whether or not they are safe for pregnancy. Please treat all as being unsafe until speaking about there usage with your RE or OB/GYN.

**Angelica (Dang Gui)— regulates menstrual flow (scanty flow) and aids in the lining of the uterus. Helps lowers FSH.

Alfalfa—Aids in pituitary problems. Works well with fertility drugs. Alfalfa is safe to take all cycle long.

Bee pollen—With royal jelly can improve or eliminate menstrual problems. Is rich in vitamins, minerals, nucleic acids, and steroid hormones. Strengthens pituitary gland.

Beechwood—For those taking Clomid or Serophene—Beechwood aids in CM and is an alternative to Robitussin. Can be found in most health food stores.

Black Cohosh—A natural supplier of estrogen. Black Cohosh should ONLY be taken from menstruation to ovulation

Blessed Thistle—is used when Black Cohosh isn’t tolerated.

Blue-green algae—Contains chlorophyll, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Strengthens pituitary gland. There are two types—Chlorella (from freshwater) and Spirulina (from saltwater)

Catnip—Elevates mood. Helps prevent miscarriages and morning sickness.

Cayenne—Increases the effectiveness of other herbs. Take from menstruation to ovulation.

Chaste Tree (aka Vitex)—Inhibits FSH & makes hormones more subdued. Regulates estrogen and progesterone. Vitex should be taken from menstruation to ovulation, though some women claim that it is beneficial to take all cycle. Great to take a few months before doing an FSH level test or CCT to help lower the results of FSH levels. **Works against Sarsaparille, Maca, Damiana, and infertility drugs including clomid!

Damiana—Inhances FSH & LH. Natural aphrodisiac.

Dong Quai—Is a hormone regulator and uterine tonic. It is known as the female hormone regulator. Dong quai should be taken in the first half of the cycle from menstruation to ovulation. **Not recommended during pregnancy

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)— is a uterine toner and helps to increase the fertile quality cervical fluid. Regulates menstrual flow (scanty, dark flow) and aids in the lining of the uterus. It neutralizes over-acidity in the body. EPO should be taken the first half of the cycle - from mensturation to ovulation.

False Unicorn— Lowers estrogen. Tones & strengthens the muscles of the uterus. Prevents miscarriage (especially when used with Lobelia). Used for all types of complications of pregnancy. Helps lowers FSH.

Ginkgo—Improves blood flow to the brain & pituitary gland.

Ginseng—Contains steroids similar to estrogen and progesterone. Aids in reducing stress. Helps lowers FSH. Regulates male hormones especially when taken with Sarsaparilla. Take from menstruation to ovulation.

Hawthorn—Helps prevent miscarriages.

Hops—Has estrogenic effects. Has a calming effect. **Can slow down sex drive.

Kelp—Great for the pituitary glands. Helps lower prolactin levels.

Licorice Root—It contains Estroil, an estrogen. Depresses the pituitary gland. Helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Take from menstruation to ovulation **shouldn’t be taken for long periods of time nor in large doses. Works against fertility drugs.

Lobelia—Prevents miscarriage. Works great with False Unicorn.

Maca—Enhances FSH & LH. Reduces stress.

Red Clover—Used to restore fertility. Take from menstruation to ovulation

Red Raspberry leaves—Strengthens the uterus and entire reproductive system. Helps prevent miscarriage.

Royal jelly— with bee pollen can improve or elimate menstrul prolems. Contains high amounts of amino acids, vitamins, and enzymes. Considered to be the queen bees equivalent of fertility drugs.

Sarsaparilla—It contains both male and female hormones. For men, it increases sperm count especially when taken with Ginseng.. For women, it balances female hormones, strengthens the pituitary gland and enhances both FSH & LH. Contains progesterone.

Saw Palmetto— may be beneficial for infertility, menstrual disorders, ovarian dysfunction, lactation, thyroid deficiencies, and painful menstrual periods. This herb is mainly used for male problems and have only found it to “may be” work for female problems.

Valerian root— does the same as wheatgrass. Very relaxing to the whole body.
