Over the past few weeks, the number of hits at The Frugalista Files, forum #500426, have been way up. I have noticed that we get hundreds of hits a day from Israel (920 so far today) and Not Applicable (215). We normally get 1-2 hits a day from half a dozen underdeveloped and eastern European countries, but Israel is unusual and 920 hits is unheard of. I am assuming this is some kind of automated software that is trying to track or extract some kind of information from the forum.

Does anyone know anything about this--who they are, what they are trying to accomplish, etc. Is it happening to anyone else? Anyone may read this forum, but only registered users may post, if that makes a difference. (Thus they aren't really annoying us). Any ideas?

Maxine,

It could be that someone is running a program to copy all posts/threads of your forum. Another alternative is a user in Israel linked to your forum, or a post/thread on it.

We had over 1,300 hits today from Israel. What is the benefit to them?

I can't tell you what benefit someone gets by copying your entire forum, but a link to a post could be useful, but could also cause hits from places you never saw them from before. I used to have a car forum here at Network54 and several people linked to it from thir websites. It drove my hits through the roof.
