Andréas Voutsinas, Stage Director and Actor, Dies at 79

Andréas Voutsinas, the Greek stage director and actor who is best known to American audiences for his role as Carmen Ghia in the 1968 Mel Brooks comedy “The Producers,” died on Tuesday in Athens. He was 79.

His death was announced by the Greek Culture Ministry.

Mr. Voutsinas served as acting coach to several Hollywood stars, including Jane Fonda, Faye Dunaway, Warren Beatty and Anne Bancroft.

In “The Producers,” Mr. Voutsinas, clad entirely in black, was the companion of the flamboyantly gay director Roger De Bris (played by Christopher Hewett), who was recruited to direct the Broadway show “Springtime for Hitler.”

Born in Khartoum, Sudan, in 1931, Mr. Voutsinas also played parts in another Mel Brooks film, “History of the World: Part 1,” and in Luc Besson’s “Big Blue.”

He directed Ms. Fonda in “The Fun Couple,” which had a very brief Broadway run in 1962.

(The Producers is one of my favourite films)

I have lost count of the number of times his performance as Carmen Ghia in the original, and best version, of The Producers cracked me up. RIP.

A fine author..

Author Beryl Bainbridge dies aged 77

Press Association

Friday, 2 July 2010

Novelist Dame Beryl Bainbridge died this morning at the age of 77 after a short battle with cancer.

The author, whose acclaimed works included An Awfully Big Adventure and Master Georgie, died at a London hospital at around 2am.

A spokesman said: "She died after a short illness in the early hours of this morning."

Liverpool-born Dame Beryl was famously shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize on five occasions, although she never won.

Dame Beryl was regarded as a master storyteller and her historical novels had made her one of the best known figures in post-war British literature.

She had been working on a new book The Girl In The Polka-Dot Dress, her first since the publication of According To Queeney in 2001. The new book focused on the assassination of Bobby Kennedy.

Her publicist Susan de Soissons said: "She was one of the huge doyennes of literature and everyone adored her."

Dame Beryl often drew on her own experiences during her early literary career with books such as The Dressmaker and debut A Weekend With Claude featuring fictionalised episodes from her own life.

To give yóu an idea of the crowded situation around the tunnel ... its not near the stage
the person in front is rather fleeing than climbing

Edit: I will delete this pic later so not to clutter the thread
