LIFE WAS SO GREAT.

Every inch of her body felt fantastic right now. It was amazing how well she moved when she was content. The world seemed brighter, her movements were crisper and everything just seemed to fall into place. She had now been reunited with two zenchou members from the past and possibly recruited three. She was moving at a pace even faster than anticipated, and it was fantastic.

To make matters even better, whether because of the environment or perhaps just the general mood, she was finding everybody including herself was learning much quicker than usual. Even with her abilities, she was finding that she was making considerable progress in every area with b9rely any effort relative to how much is usually needed. It was heavenly, and she wasn't about to miss the chance to take full advantage of it. Especially if she could have some fun.

Grinning, she sprinted through the dense forests, listening carefully to the relatively slow feet of the young Yamanaka she was chasing. She was exactly 21 meters away from him, where his stupid mind reading jutsu couldn't catch her. For now, she was just letting him get accustomed to runnin and allowing herself to get accustomed to keeping herself at such a specific range. This dense forest wasn't infinite, and she had a long training session planned, so she also needed to run quickly enough to drive him in different directions.

Jumping into the air above the trees and looking around, she could see the trees thinning in the direction she heard the Yamanaka's feet travelling. So she quickly sprinted ahead, maintaining the range until she was exactly 21 meters ahead of him, at which point she stopped suddenly and launched herself from the tree, headed straight towards him. As soon as she could make visual contact, she released two kunai that would have landed just one foot away from him as he ran forwards.

It would have been incredibly well timed. She released the Kunai in the small window where he was running towards him, covering 10 meters in a blink while launching the weapon, and then touching down on another tree before launching herself back to 21 meters away. She could have attempted to mask her thoughts, but the objective here was to test her speed, not her intellect.

The sound of Fur country's natural predators and prey alike had been all that Gene could hear for the past hour. To him, hearing animals as opposed to anything human was peaceful & not to mention simple to deal with. Human's for what they were worth were ... Unpredictable, hazardous when left alone and most of all irritating. Being a human himself Gene was no exception to this observation but due to certain training regiments had been able to control his negative traits to some degree. Unfortunately, it appeared that this luxury was not afforded to others as the sound of foot steps met his ears followed closely behind by much more rapid steps.

From the camouflaged hammock fifteen feet high up in the trees, Gene honestly hadn't been concerned much for the happenings down below. However, he would have been a fool to dismiss what he believed to be a potential disturbance to his safety for simple man on wild behavior. As he peered over the left brim of the makeshift bed, Gene got his first glimps of someone he ought to have tried to avoid. There was a person who the young Shinobi identified as a Leaf ninja running frantically away from someone, their face had been concealed but Gene knew a Shinobi when he saw one. The way this particular person moved... it was too polished, too perfect.

*Thud Thud*

His eyes went wide! Whoever this person had been - they were far from average and those throws... They'd been playing around! Riled now from whatever desire he had to nap Gene moved silently from the hammock to the base of the tree and then to the second branch where his supplies had been kept. It'd taken only a second to fully arm himself and less than to equip the range finder lens to his right eye. With it, Gene tracked the two carefully from a distance. His instincts were telling him not to get involved but the desire to learn more about this person pulled him in the opposite direction! He wanted to know desperately if he were strong enough, how well did he stack up against other Shinobi?

Leaving a tent which had served alcohol to participants Shinjiro made his way into the forests surrounding the village of Nekumi. He needed to clear his head and quiet the throbbing presence of Vorashu. His control over the Genma had actually been getting far better since coming to this country, a fact that derived from necessity as the spirits presence was stronger than ever before. Nonetheless, taking his mind off of the small victory he had won over the demi-god the boy focussed on the physical world around him, taking in the large forests and many creatures all around him. There was so much life here, a vibrant world that even he could appreciate and a direct contrast to the dark forests choked with mist and fog that were common in Kirigakure. Growing up he had never had much of an appreciation for nature, his focus always being on his duty as a shinobi and bettering himself though now he was beginning to see the importance of connecting to the natural world.

There was much he could learn from observing animals in their natural state and in many ways their company seemed likely to be far more rewarding than people. Still he would never admit these thoughts to Vorashu. Stubbornly he refused to acknowledge that as much progress as he was making with the Genma so too did the spirits influence seem to be affecting his own mindset. Racing through the trees, swiftly and silently something soon piqued the young assassin’s interest. The forest had suddenly grown quiet, as though there were predators in its midst. Of course this could very well be in response to his own presence though something in his gut told him that there was at least one another nearby.

Suddenly the sound of two distinct ‘thwacks’ of kunai lodging themselves in wood rang out through the silent forest. Shifting his head toward the direction the boy adjusted his course and began closing in, slower now and being sure to move silently and remain hidden behind trees and foliage as he attempted to get a visual on the situation. His senses were all on full alert as he strained to hear even the slightest sounds of weapons being drawn or heavy breathing as a result of running. After several long moments he was able to hone in somewhat on one individual. The Yamanaka male whom was being chased and targeted. The question was, was this simply training or was he about to bear witness to something more sinister?

Trained in the ways of an Assassin, silent movement is one of the Karagata families most esteemed talents. Shinjiro can run at his full speed without making a sound, light on his toes and able to breathe softly and evenly at the perfect opportunities he is so skilled that even his clothes or weapons don’t rustle. Even his heartbeat is slow and barely detectable unless an opponent has an enhanced hearing technique of equivalent or higher rank. However when walking his stealth is superior to such an extent that he is completely undetectable by means of sound.

"Fucking hell." Why was it that every time he met up with Shado, or did something for her, he always ended up running for his life? Every. Damn. Time. This time, however, it was training. The sound of his frantic breathing was all Yudai could hear as he full on sprinted through the dense forest. That, and his feet hitting the dirt floor every second or so. It was then, as she moved in the trees over him, that he caught just enough of her thoughts to tell him to stop running. Yudai skidded to a halt just as two kunai thudded into the tree in front of him. However, as he turned and dashed in a random direction, not able to tell which direction he was actually running in, he caught the minds of two others within the area, and one had known that Yudai was from the hidden leaf. Yudai began to wonder if the shinobi would obey the rules of no fighting so far out in the wilderness, or if he would disregard the event rules to hunt down a rogue.

The other mind Yudai had touched had confused him though, because it was as if he had touched two minds within one. It was not something he had experienced before, and made a mental note to look into it further when he wasn't running for his life. Yudai ducked under fallen logs, and occasionally jumped into the trees as he ran, and even began to change course without deciding on where he was going. His only objective was to out run Shado.

The air on the forest floor was hot, and muggy, which caused Yudai to sweat profusely, a fact he had not noticed until he slid into an abandoned fox den hidden in a dead tree. He knew that he would not be able to hide from Shado, at least, not for long, and really only wanted a few minutes to catch his breath. He could tell that he was slowly getting faster, but it was to slow for his liking. His only thoughts as he ran had been about moving his legs faster, but Yudai had begun to wonder if there was more to it than that. He thought that maybe he would move faster if his feet touched the ground for a shorter amount of time, or if his feet hit the ground in a different way. He was willing to try anything, which was why, when he sprinted out of the fox hole, he ran on the balls of his feet, trying to use his calf muscles to propel him forward faster than he had run before.

Perfect. New people were arriving and it allowed her to introduce a new scenario to the training, upping its difficulty a well as making it more difficult. If she just chased him around, it would be both ineffective and monotonous. Instead, she'd use the newcomers to her advantage. Plus, the more moving parts, the more of a training session this turned out to be for her as well.

She stopped and changed direction, leaping back into Yudai's range and speaking to him by thinking. "Situation's changed. You're attempting to escape an enemy country. I had sent you in to destroy a bridge and frame a neighboring nation. You're being chased by a powerful country guard who tracked you down immediately after, but mid-chase, two targets have appeared.

Figure out what they want and what they can do, all the while avoiding me. I, the one who was originally chasing you, am the only one that knows about your mind reading ability. Commit to the scenario, only break it to tell me what you've learned about what the two new guys want. In the meantime, your main hunter wants to make sure the competition doesn't take his prey."

Smiling, Zai jumped and headed towards Gene, giving Yudai time to strategize and react. She'd land directly in front of the chuunin, quietly and curiously looking him up and down before speaking. "You've stumbled into a training session, which means you either have to join in, leave or fight. Which will it be?"

Incredibly fast....and conscious too , Gene thought to himself. He'd managed to leap backwards onto the next branch two meters away just in enough time to avoid being knocked over by the quick Shinobi....no, Kunoichi's sudden approach. Instinctively, Gene had already slipped in and out of his thigh holster and found his left hand firmly gripping the knife as if to defend or attack at a moments notice. Truly an accomplishment considering he hadn't exactly formed a plan yet - he needed to KNOW his adversary.

Although the woman now blocked his path, the Yamanaka clan member could be seen fleeing in the distance thanks to the special lens affixed to Gene's right eye. He hadn't saw the face of this ninja & he didn't need to in order to realize how wrong he had been. They weren't being chased at all! Looks like I goofed... [I/] The thought echoed in his head for a moment before Gene finally spoke. "I never was good at taking the high road," said Gene in a matter of fact tone expressing his unwillingness to flee. With all the finesse of a well practiced soldier, Gene threw the kunai he'd been holding toward his masked adversary; though the plan wasn't to hit the woman, it was to evaluate her reaction speed.

Additionally, it would keep her from getting too hasty with hand seals - an advantage that may have just saved his life if things came down to the wire. Next he worked his angles (breaking down several outcomes using probability) ; if she were to duck and attempt to charge under his kunai & thereby through his assault, Gene would invoke his armor. Bluffing an attack in order to force the woman into thinking twice about advancing only to retreat swiftly during that moment of hesitation. Assuming she wouldn't fall for the bluff however, Gene would make full use of the technique's passive effects to cripple her quickly and get out of dodge.

If she were to dodge left (or right) and aftempt to charge forward then Gene would utilize his specialty. The environment now was just as much in his favor as it was for her - except he would use it first & perhaps unlike the woman, Gene intended to play dirty. In certain areas of the field, light had shown through the forest and some areas were brighter than others. Although it'd been coincidental Gene realized that it would be tough to see a thin wire if its existence was hidden by a light. Bit by bit he would chip away at her speed until she could no longer move.

Lastly, if his plan had been seen through and the woman simply blocked or deflected the Kunai knife then Gene was prepared to cut his losses, drop a smoke pellet & flee. He wasn't on orders to engage and revealing too much was dangerous. Besides, there were too many variables in the woman's range of attacks that Gene didn't know about and only a fool would charge an unknown adversary blindly...only a fool. Taiga came to mind but so did a sharp pain in Gene's right lung. TSKK!.. Gene's eyes went wide as if the entire world reflected in his Auburn pupils, What was that pain just now? It was unusual to him and immediately the medical center came to mind. It was beginning to look like he would be forced to visit that place again.

Clearing his mind for the moment Gene made sure to keep his breathing soft and heart rate slow. His ears were fine tuned to his surroundings now his ears perceived with a deadly efficiency; every animal moving within a ten meter radius could not and would not escape the boy's perception. With no real formal hunter training Gene developed his basic senses on his own and through trial and error, learned how to identify potential threats from by standers by way of probability. For example, he knew that any animal within the vicinity would be a threat because of the fact that most known species of animal always strayed away from human kind. Those who remained in their natural areas made their presence known through sight, sound, scent but never feeling. In a hunters habitat, any animal dumb enough to get neat even small prey was in danger of becoming prey themselves. It was a weird thing with Nature that Gene hadn't truly understood himself but he made what knowledge he did have work for him.

To that end, it had not been Shinji's physical appearance that gave him away or even the sounds he did or didn't make. To Gene, what revealed to him that there were more than just One problem to worry about was when a wind blowing North carried small traces of his scent past the tree where Gene now stood. Still, despite knowing of the presence of another there had been nothing that Gene could really do about it. For if he were to act now and attempt to blindly attack where he guessed someone had been - he ran the risk of revealing that he caught on and subsequently ruining his element of surprise. On the other hand, if he were to simply wait out the person then perhaps he wouldn't need to go through all the trouble. Granted Gene didn't know if the person was friendly or a liability - no, rather he didn't know how MUCH of a liability this person would be, he played his hand as he should have. For now, the focus remained on the woman in front of him. The actions of this strange looking Kunoichi would determine Gene's next course of action but one thing was for sure, she'd been in the way of discovering just who that other Shinobi was.

Moving in closer with all the stealth and caution of a skilled assassin Shinji positioned himself 12 meters to the back right of Gene at about a 30 degree angle. Standing with his back pressed up against a tree he tilted his head towards his direction, making out the sound of Zai beginning to speak as well as a weapon being drawn. He didn’t wish to risk exposing himself by gaining visual confirmation though after a few seconds of analyzing the voice he realized the woman was someone he had met before. ‘It’s her. The one from yesterday’ he recalled. He had sparred with her shadow clones as it turned out in order to hone his physical ability. He knew then that she outclassed him. If he slipped away now it was possible that he could escape unnoticed. In their last encounter he had refrained from displaying his prowess in stealth, taking a more direct approach though now he was feeling much more like himself.

Still, she hadn’t attempted to kill him previously, it seemed highly unlikely the situation would have changed especially since he had quickly learned that the woman had quite a teacher mentality, always lecturing even strangers and helping others to improve. He didn’t trust her that much was certain. In his experience nobody was so forthright and helpful unless there was something they had to gain from such kindness and there was nothing he wished to give this woman. Nonetheless he was curious about this other individual and how they would stack up against the woman. For now he would continue to observe, straining his senses and weighing his options until he was ready to retreat or reveal himself. He knew that Vorashu wouldn’t like such an approach. No sooner than he had considered such a thing had the voice of the Genma resonated through his mind. 'Cowering again? When will you embrace your calling as alpha?' the grating voice echoed through his head. 'Even animals know the value of stealth and subtly' Shinjiro countered with a bitter tone. 'A true predator stalks their prey yes but you are no true predator, turning tail and fleeing at every opportunity, too cowardly to challenge any creature capable of putting up a fight. Humans such as you are truly pathetic' the Genma spouted its resentment. It knew very well that there had been several instances where Shinjiro had shown bravery and commitment though as always unless the boy showed such traits in every moment then his past successes were forgotten and only his shortcoming were remembered.

Taiga had heard quite a bit of commotion and senses that something cool must have been happening. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he was also pretty dead sure he did not want to walk into the middle of a battle or needlessly injure himself if it did not concern him. Believe it or not- that was his rational. The thick headed idiot who always ran off ahead, broke formations, got into trouble… was now the kind to consider hanging back and keeping a low profile Maturity, mixed with soul-crushing all-powerful-nuke-beings inside of you had a way of changing your personality, to say the least… and on the topic of leasts, at least his unquenchable curiosity remained. His body trembled for a moment as an extraordinary explosion of chakra released. Smoke flooded out around him as this happened, the greyish color forming a cloak around his body as black smoke raced around his head to form a hood, and more smoke around his side and back creating the appearance of a black hood & cape- though occasionally the cape separated showing that it was really in fact wings.

”You really should be more considerate about borrowing that power, boy. And be at least a little safer about hiding the damn fact you’re a jinchuuriki” the low grumbly voice of Sukairaa said. Taiga ignored it. His meeting the the Old One and the recent revelation of the secrets- the well spring and everything… Had peaked a new kind of curiosity in him, and also a sense of confidence having found out he was the first to achieve a perfect bond with Sukairaa since his first host some 900 years ago… before the time of villages even.

”I’ll be hiding, that’s what we do best, after all.” His body turned to stone, and along with it, they sank into the earth. The feeling was like when you swam in the ocean and a big wave toppled you and pulled you under… except unlike that, you never came up. ON the other hand however, Taiga was able to be safe and gather information with his abilities. He had originally only used them for offense and defense but lately had become particularly keen on honing his mind and strategy when using the Genma’s powers.

Before long, he’d be towards the scene where he would slither his way up from the earth and into a tree, and then, partially placed his head out- which was now wood to take a peak at the surroundings. No sooner then he did so his eyes would spot Gene. Gross. And then also the boy from before- the jinchuuriki of the body. Surprisingly he turned out to be quite weak and not at all what Taiga had expected. Either way, it was interesting to find them all here… And then, it seemed someone else was antagonizing them… but from her hsouts it was a drill? A training of sorts? He didn’t want to leave and he really didn’t want in, so he decided he’d just continue to lurk and watch. Perhaps he would see something fun, like Gene wiping out or something. At the same time he could practice his reconnaissance- after all it wasn’t often he used his brain. Generally he broke through walls, not hid behind them.

It appears to be some kind of drill. The woman seems to be far more powerful then everyone here- defeintly able to keep Gene on his toes, which places her probably at Jounin or higher rank. Either way, she’s chucking kunais right now. I don’t know much about her beyond what I can se- It occurred to him he had probably been in the tree too long. Slinking back into it he’d make way for a boulder than repeat the same thing, coming out just a little to watch.

The obvious visual signs of a missing ninja: her clothes didn’t give way to a village, she had no forehead protector on… and yet she used ninja weapons and obviously knew how to throw and use them. Throwing a kunai and a throwing knife weren’t at all alike, after all. Different weights and mechanics. With that knowledge, he would begin to assess the others at the field, though not for long before becoming absolutely, utterly bored.

Fun.

One of the targets she had heard earlier was now hiding around 15 meters in front of her while the target she approached was proving to be at least entertaining. Perhaps she could have some fun here and not just have to worry about Yudai's training.

Smiling, she moved with all her speed as the Kunai flew towards her. She'd grab it and then immediately send it in the direction of the Jinchuriki. His movements sounded familiar, so it could have been one of the many she'd encountered so far. That wasn't something she was willing to count on however, so perhaps a little game would do instead.

Once she did so, the boy in front of her dropped a smoke pellet and prepared to leave, not that it would have made a difference if she wanted to chase hi-

Oh. That could be fun. The scenario had been chasing Yudai, but what if she were chasing all of the new targets? Strangers would likely have to work together if they wanted any chance at escaping her, and she'd have a chance to use her bow and arrow. She rarely got a chance to use the weapons she had spent so long perfecting.

So with a smile, she listened to the boys steps, memorizing the direction he ran off in.

"NEW TRAINING SCENARIO. I'm a big bad hunter who likes to chew little shinobi bones as a snack. I'll be chasing anybody I can hear. Your job is to not get caught." Performing a set of seals, she created a clone that sprinted ahead and followed Gene, running just fast enough to always maintain a 10 meter distance. The clone shouted as the original did. "You win by escaping, starting now."

Her amusement was clear. The clone was meant mostly to keep tabs on the two shinobi (if they headed in the same direction). The hunt hadn't started yet, for now she was pulling out her bow and drawing an arrow, letting everybody including Yudai acclimate to the new scenario and decide if they wanted to participate. She would give them just a brief moment before truly starting her plans.

Even if she didn't leave with a new recruit from this, she'd certainly get in some training.

[+] jutsu

Amplified Hearing
B-ranked Taijutsu Stance
Prereq: 20 Instinct
By manipulating the muscles in hear hears and focusing, Zai is able to expand the strength of her hearing. This technique allows her to boost her hearing threefold, making both close and far away noises louder. This does leave her susceptible to being injured by any particularly loud sounds, however. It also allows her to hear whispers up to 20 meters away.

Projectile Grab
B-ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prereq: Math Sights
Using her knowledge of trajectories and projectiles in general, Zai is able to snatch projectiles right out of the air as they approach her. This of course requires that Zai be able to see and move fast enough to catch the arrow, although the distances does allow her to catch projectiles that are moving up to 5 speed more than her, so long as she has the necessary strength. Because she's so accustomed to projectiles and capable of using Math Sights, Zai can also predict and preemptively react to an incoming projectile, predicting where it's going to arrive. With this knowledge, she can begin to move and reach for the arrow before it's even arriving, even if she can't follow it with her eyes, solely through her intense knowledge of projectiles. The disadvantage to this, however, is that if any special technique was used on the projectile shot, such as one that changed its motion or behavior, and she didn't notice, Zai could either miss the projectile or even accidentally put her hand in front of its path instead of catching it. If the projectile is moving with a strength that makes it so Zai can't stop it, she can use this jutsu to strike the projectile instead, causing its trajectory to veer off and barely miss her. She can do this deflection easily enough to projectiles that have a force up to 5 greater than her strength, and if she does it with a projectile that has a force that's 7 greater than her strength, it will just barely miss her and very likely at least graze her.

Waiting behind his tree Shinjiro contemplated what to do. Part of him wanted to show Vorashu that he could face challenges head on, that he wasn’t afraid or weak. His instincts however told him not to engage, years of training drilled into him. ‘Never challenge an opponent you cant hope to defeat’ he reminded himself. That was the quickest way to an early death, even if this was a ‘safe zone’ it was those survival instincts that would keep him sharp. Thus the decision had been made not to engage. He had been hoping to remain undetected from the beginning that way he could gather information on those individuals present. The woman was out of his league, he knew that. Avoiding a potential conflict with her would be favorable but it was the other individual whose presence nagged at him. The voice had also been familiar, eerily so and he couldn’t quite place who it was at first and then it donned on him. That stoic even tone. The thinly veiled hostility. It was that grey haired konoha shinobi, the one whose eyes had been like daggers when he had found out that Shinjiro had been the one to cut off his friends arm back in the cave. Well over a month had passed since then though the memory still felt fresh in his mind. After all such an amalgamation of shinobi from various nations, joined together in a mutual goal of survival against a vicious dragon was not something easily forgotten. His mind sifted through memories of that time. He hadn’t seen much of the man in action but from what he did observe Shinjiro knew that Gene was quite fast and well coordinated and clearly had a good grasp on ninjutsu as well as a cautious demeanor as indicated by his frequent use of shadow clones. It seemed likely that he was slightly too strong to risk challenging even if it had been a one on one scenario.

Despite this he wished to test himself against this powerful shinobi of Konoha, one of a similar age to himself though he knew that now was not an ideal time for such a clash. Retreat was his priority. He could hear the smoke bomb being deployed. Against someone of Zai’s talent and her exceptionally keen hearing he knew this was barely a half measure though nonetheless it was the best opportunity to act that he would have in the foreseeable future. Forming a set of hand seals a tunnel would open up beneath him. Soundlessly he would slip into the darkness, disappearing into the earth and scampering along through his newly formed tunnel. It would take him roughly 10 meters away, aimed to about a 30 degree angle to the left of where his previous position had been. Once he came to the end of the tunnel he would repeat the sequence of hand seals and extend the length of the tunnel by another 10 meters. He hoped that his silence as well as the scent of dirt masking his own scent would be enough to get him a head start in escaping. Still he listened carefully for any sound of an opponent approaching from above or behind and as he moved he placed out explosive tags every 5 meters for a total of the first 20 meters of the tunnel assuming that he was able to perform his technique a second time. He was cautious by nature and knew to turn a weakness into a strength by luring an opponent into a trap if they did attempt to follow the tunnel. Perhaps he would even be lucky enough to have the Konoha shinobi come after him. There was undeniably bad blood between the two and while killing one another was punishable by death in this country that didn’t mean he wouldn’t gladly take the liberty of injuring him if he could. If not he would continue on with this tactic until he was over 100 meters away and from there he would sprint silently above ground in short bursts between cover until he was back in the village of Nekumi.

Prerequisite:[Stealth]
Trained in the ways of an Assassin, silent movement is one of the Karagata families most esteemed talents. Shinjiro can run at his full speed without making a sound, light on his toes and able to breathe softly and evenly at the perfect opportunities he is so skilled that even his clothes or weapons don’t rustle. Even his heartbeat is slow and barely detectable unless an opponent has an enhanced hearing technique of equivalent or higher rank. However when walking his stealth is superior to such an extent that he is completely undetectable by means of sound.
