Visited it today with a friend made at another site.....or what is left of it. The place covers less than a quarter acre.

There is a poor marker commemorating Lincoln's climbing to the top of the wall to view the fight with Early's troops. It is in a residential neighborhood and the topography of the fight isn't really visible. The garbage in the trenches is just sad. I can say I was there, and I won't be going back!

It's a shame that another historical site is being allowed to erode and 'rust in peace.'

That is what Marshall said. I agree in that a special event did happen at this spot and more could and should have been done here. I don't know that I would think it desireable to maintain all of the fortifications built for defense of the capital during the Civil War.

We also can't verify when the demolition of the works really began. If it was shortly after the conflict that would indicate that they were never intended to be more than a temporary expedient from the get-go.

I'm a little slow on the photos because we're off again!

You're slow overall, so why should that be a problem?
