This is the Inner Sanctum. A strange, fantastic world controlled by a mass of living, pulsating flesh - THE MIND. It destroys, distorts, creates monsters, commits murder! Yes, even YOU....without knowing.....can commit...MURDER.

I've read that Mohammad Ali was mentioned for Superman in 1978s movie (since he called himself Superman), until Alexander Salkind  found he was a different race, that was before that PC started.  Can you imagine a black Bond or a black Kal-el in the 70s?
One of the funniest anecdotes via Ali was-stop me if you've heard it-on a plane and the stewa-flight Attendant-told Ali to buckle up, they were getting ready to take off.  Ali told her "Superman don't need no seat belt."  The f.a. told him "Superman don't need no airplane either".

Joe Frazier liked to tell the story of his first Ali fight when the trash-talking Ali said to Frazier "Don't you know I'm God?"   To which Smokin' Joe replied, "Well, God, you in the wrong place tonight, brothah!"

“All the feelings of alienness. How am I going to fit into society? Maybe if I become a hero, everyone will love me, even though I’m a freak. All that stuff really wasn’t tapped into with the character."

Thank Great Rao, Cage never got to smear all of that (tired-even-then) Burton-ness all over Smallville's Son, the Man of Tomorrow. Both Singer, and then Nolan/Snyder, brought their own sour takes to the character; and (FINALLY!) Warners has learned to regret it.

And understanding a three-quarters-of-a-century-old visual tradition.

In characters born in a visual medium.

There's that, too.
