Looks like it will be based on Peter Jackson's KING KONG (Kong is advertised as a silverback gorilla, the cast includes Lumpy) more than the '33 Kong.

Lumpy???  Why....just why???

Time for a nice ice skating song, which will probably lead to...

"Disney presents...King Kong On Ice!!!"

Somewhat reluctantly, but with high hopes, I hope to see this when it opens.

Why reluctant? I've seen many 'genre' shows on Broadway, and only DRACULA really succeeded.

The others I've seen -- IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S SUPERMAN all those decades ago barely had any Superman in it; SPIDER-MAN INTO THE DARK was a complete mess, completely forgettable; YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was earnest and replicated the movie, but again, don't remember much; Julian Beck's avant garde Living Theater's (remember them?), off-Broadway production of FRANKENSTEIN in 1968 was a radical (in the political sense of the word), take on Mary Shelley's classic. It had its moments.

Never did see the more mainstream FRANKENSTEIN (almost no one did), which opened and closed on Jan. 4, 1981.

Another attempt, the Off-Broadway FRANKENSTEIN: THE MUSICAL ran for about a month last year.

I did ride the KING KONG ride at Universal Studios, which later burned down. That was kinda cool. The ride, I mean.

The show opens in previews on October 5, with a general opening on November 8.

This video shows the crew operating the Kong "puppet".  That term should be applied very loosely.  This thing looks like it can inflict some serious personal injury.

Bless you, Godziwolf.  I doubt if I ever would see Ann in "Kong's negative space".  Still took me a coupla minutes to find her.  According to the story/video, Ann is an African American.  Doesn't that contradict the Kong's infatuation with her?  Kong has been getting AA women for eons.

No way that Kong's traditional infatuation with Caucasian women (except in King Kong vs. Godzilla) will ever play in these racially fraught times (notice that he shows no interest in the female lead in Kong: Skull Island).

Yeah, that seems like a problem. Ann being blonde is why she was different from the prior sacrifices, and why the tribe noticed her in the first place.

Even if you downplay the African-ness of the islanders and make the natives as Aboriginal or an Indonesian as the island should be, Indonesians are a pretty raven-haired bunch.

Maybe this Kong is of the Caucasian persuasion, and that's why he falls for an African American Ann.

To me, casting an African American woman as Ann calls even MORE attention to the supposed racial overtones of the story.  But that could be what the producers want.

Wonder why they didn't use Dino's robot Kong?  Is it still around (seriously)?

That 'robot' barely functioned 42 years ago.  I believe the King head and hand stood in front of the North Carolina DeLaurentiis 1980s studio for a while and then went missing.

I'd like to go just to see his name up in lights on Broadway.

They missed a golden opportunity to use the Son of Kong posters for Denham's exhibition of his monster.
