Anthony,

Any way to correlate the CF serials to the original KMW / MaK manufacturers serials?

Just a quick rant. I hope I won't offend anybody.

I know that everybody is excited about the new wagons getting to the units but some of the threads are starting to ask questions that are getting very close to OPSEC. Please, lets remember that crewmen will be fighting in these vehicles in the future. Anything that has to do with capability needs to be safeguarded.

Rant over.

Stephane hit it on the nose.

Everything that I post has to be cleared through Public Affaires, as a serving member have to be very careful on what Info I am allowed to post.

As the tanks started off as Dutch, and made in 1985, should narrow it down.

I wondered why the plates started with 85 instead of 11 (or 12).

Strange that we think of these as new. How many of us still own ANYTHING that was produced in 1985?

After the Cold War I don't believe that there has been much in the way of "new" tank manufacturing.

The last new build Leopard 2s and M1 Abrahms were manufactured in 1992 I think.

Many of these tanks have been completely remanufactured and are good as new.

Question: Were the Leo 2A6Ms loaned by Germany for Afghanistan back in German hands or were they brought back to Canada with the EX Dutch 2A6s given to the Germans in exchange?

Was for Dutch Leo's to be upgraded to A6M and handed over to the Germans as a one for one.

That was "Da Pran" no idea if this happened.

Yep. We took 20 of the ex dutch 2A6M and had KMW convert them back to the German specs. We took the original German 2A6M and are in the process of getting them all fixed up for Canadian use. We figured that due to the deadlines we were encountering for the loan and the prospect of staying in Aghanistan longer, that it would be easier to just pay to get the Dutch Leos converted back. Ended up being cheaper in the end as the German Leos were very well worn by the time we were done with them. It would have cost us a lot of money to get them all fixed up good as new. Instead we can do it ourselves and stretch the schedule to save some money.

Only in DND would taking longer to do something save money... I kid, I know what you mean...it just sounded funny.
