The seal on the top is simply pushed on over the top, it's normally replaced with the rubber o ring type that will stretch over the domed top, pop a bit of grease on first.
To make a mistake is human, but to blame it on someone else, that's even more human.

Ok the one I think I the small one on top under the domed centre pin if it is this one they can easily be replaced by pressing the V down on a hard surface which lifts the domed top up and just remove the old washer and while the top is sticking proud just slide a 'O' ring over the top -- Job Done.

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your bargain purchase😁
I won't go over advice already given, but I will recommend the gel type fuel, don't burn the hexamine tablets with little ones around, there not nice things. If you do use meths, then top up with 10% (by volume) of water as this will lessen sooting on the boiler barrel. Also you need to get some steam oil to put into the cylinder (460 grade (mamod type) or 680grade), if you can't get hold of that, (try ebay first) then 3 in 1 oil will suffice for a test.

Happy steaming 😁
Jon

Don’t remove the central pin. Stretch a new O ring over the top.
