Hi Jon - I will be taking lots of pictures and will share some of them on here :)

I really am not sure regarding other loco's but I imagine it will likely be 'YEO'. In fact the LYN and YEO projects started around the same time but YEO only got so far as the frames.

Remember that there is already a magnificent Manning Wardle Tank Engine working on The Ffestiniog Railway in the form of LYD http://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/railway/rolling-stock/lyd

YEO was the first of three engines delivered to the original Lynton & Barnstaple Railway from Manning, Wardle & Co of Leeds in 1897 so it is a most appropriate choice for a Manning Wardle to be built for the new L&B :)

Jolly exciting times ahead when a real SR narrow gauge engine lives in North Devon again

Who would have thought this possible when SR steam finished 50 years ago and the L&B had been slumbering for already for 32 years back then

It really is exciting times for the L&B and the arrival of LYN is yet another 'piece of the jigsaw' about to be put in place :)

Another engine that is about to come into service at the L&B is one that has been at the railway for a number of years now. It's not steam but a Diesel loco now known as 'PILTON' that originally saw service in Australia.

A brief history:

D2393 "PILTON" 0-6-0 150hp diesel mechanical locomotive No.2393 of 1952 manufactured for the Drewry Car Company by Baguley of Burton-on-Trent. Exported to Victoria Mill (about 110km north of Townsville) Queensland Australia. Originally numbered D3 Renamed Leichhardt, 1974. Out of use by 1989.

1996 to Illawarra Light Railway Museum Society, Albion Park, NSW.

2001 Bought and repatriated by the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Trust and renamed PILTON.

The loco has had a lot of work carried out on it. I had a chance to drive this engine in 2014 - at that time is looked like this:

The loco had a new Cummins engine installed in 2004 as the original Gardner 8LW K type 150HP engine was deemed an uneconomic repair.

During running trials there were some issues identified that led to the decision to replace the Cummins with a Gardner 6LXB 180HP engine. Also necessary if the loco was to be used on the new L&B was some modifications to the cab to fit the L&BR loading gauge.

The engine is now complete:

Doesn't it look fantastic!!
