Chris is working from Philip's (Swift Fox) records so do not be surprised if things are a bit mixed up. We can blame them both equally.

Quick question about the insurance ... what does LMTA stand for?  Is that covered by the Day Membership fee of £1?

If someone wanted to get Public Liability Insurance, what would be the best way to obtain the insurance.

Thanks

Often one's liability is covered by the ordinary household insurance policy. Members of LMTA (Leicester Museums Technology Association) are protected by the Association's insurance cover. The £1 day membership was introduced to enable non members exhibiting at the museum to benefit from the same cover as full time members. Previously exhibitors were treated as employees of the Museums service as we were assured by the management of the time but the present incumbents state that exhibitors must have their own insurance if they are not LMTA members. I'm not sure if the director lied to us forty years ago, the present lot are lying to us now or if it's just that some council employee has negotiated a cheaper deal for the council that as with most cheaper deals does not provide the same levels of cover as in the past.
If you want 12 months cover independently of any other policies there are several firms that specialise in such things but you do have to be careful as some interpret the regulations on boiler testing rather rigorously. Many toy steam engines cannot be hydraulically tested without dismantling and after re-assembly will require retesting which in turn will require dismantling !

If things change it is usually for the worse.
