Sorting about in the brass scrap bin. Going to make dummy gas tank to supply the boilers burner but will be run off large butane can. I will mount it alongside the boiler so the lathes going to be seeing some action. See what comes out at the end.

Cool, I don't believe I have ever heard of a fake gas tank.

Right i'm back from me hols all tanned and ready to go. I have made up a lot more fake parts for the dummy tank now. I have refined the look of some bits and i'm ready to drill the holes in the mounting stands. Then I will be ready to start to solder it all together. pics as follows.
Once soldered together and mounted on plinth the copper tube will be shaped to position and flexi hose mounted to allow for the large butane tank to be kept out of site. There were some small bits  I have had to make. Lots of m.e. threads used.

Hi Tommo,

Very nice work on your dummy tank etc and also on the boiler.

One word of caution though... do not try and run your burner with that large gas bottle laying on it's side... that would most certainly cause liquid gas to be fed to the burner, which it will not be able to handle... result... a big, dangerous flare up.
That type of gas bottle must be used vertically with your type of burner.

Well done on your build though.

Stay safe.

Best regards.

Sandy.

So today I assembled the dummy gas tank soldered in the parts and also the pipe connections. trip out to buy gas. 3 stores later I managed to get some. coupled up pipe work and time for first test of the burner.
Lit the burner but the flame was all at one end as can be seen in the 1st video. Bit of a think and made a deflector fitted in middle of burner. Fired it up again and it was burning fine in the middle. Need to screw down the boiler mounting plate and try a steam up tomorrow.
just uploading vids to youtube will put them on here in few mins.

Wow what a flame - that will boil in no time. Great work!

You may wish to try getting it to run at a low flame for tick-over.

It does burn a little lower if I turn down the valve on the gas supply. Will play with various settings when its under the boiler and running.

Never happy so today I have been making various unions. A 3 way union to pipe up a pressure gauge and a regulator vavle . So that I can wait till steam is up before sending it to the unit i'm trying to run. The pressure gauge was from work some kicking about off old air supply valves.
they have external 1/4bsp thread so I drilled and tapped 1/4 me thread up the middle and turned the old thread off the outside, looks much better. Now I have to make some more unions to fit the flow regulator to take 1/2 me pipe nuts. I will admit I didn't make the nuts or the nipples way to small for my eyes. They came vie Ebay. Will carry on with this during the week . Tested the boiler today had to modify the tube to take the burner jet. Infact I made new one . Had to reposition the hole better flame control now.

Testing out the new pressure gauge system. No leaks keeping steady pressure just need to make up base plate to screw down the regulator valve.
