Hi,

I'm sorting out the artwork on some sheets of Japanese WW2 cigarettes & need to clarify a few points.

1) Were both Homare & Hibiki issued/sold in 10's or just 20's ?

2) Were Kinshi issued/sold in 20's

3) What was the average size carton/wrapping for cigarettes ?
eg USA 200's , German 480's etc

4) Anybody have any pictures/links for the labels on these ?

5) Last but not least, Any brands people would prefer to see.

Many thanks,

Clive

Homare was sold since 1905 at least.

I don't know such a cigarette as Hibi. Is it Hibiki?

2) Were Kinshi issued/sold in 20's

Kinshi was from 1940. Before it, it was named Golden Bat. Because it is in English, it was renamed into Japanese name.

3) What was the average size carton/wrapping for cigarettes ?
eg USA 200's , German 480's etc

Usually 10 or 20 pieces

4) Anybody have any pictures/links for the labels on these ?

Hi Taki,

Many thanks for your help.

Thank you for the link - I know the site , it is very informative.

Your right I just couldn't read my own writing !!

It should have been Hibiki - were they sold in 10's ?

Also, Homare were they sold in 10's ?

I found some pictures from the Museum of Tobacco & Salt that show Kinshi in a 20 packet but didn't know if this was post 1945 ?

I've completed the first sheet - Homare/Kinshi/Golden Bat but suddenly thought maybe I should include Homare 10's & Kinshi 20's - hence questions.

I have also some pictures of a Homare package that shows several 20 packets in a torn brown paper wrapper but unclear how many packets. Do you know what the size of average 1930-40's packages were ?

BTW, are there any brands you would like to see,

Thanks,

Clive

Aha, you asked about the quantity of cigarettes in a packet.

The packet of Homare and Hibiki had 20 cigarettes. There were two kinds of packets in Kinshi, 10 and 20 cigarettes.

For me, cigarette is to smoke, not to see.

Hi Taki,

Thanks for the update - I had seen some pics of Homare & Hibiki 10's but they looked like repro's & I couldn't understand the text.

I haven't smoked a cigarette in 25yrs - took ages to kick the habit ( it's all in the brain ) but don't even miss it now - including a nice hand rolled cigar.....

Rgds,

Clive
