A friend posted a photo of Assad in front of a T-72A and I groaned and thought, 'please tell me those aren't your first line MBTs'

Can´t locate it and wont believe till I see it. I´m sure it´s only a T-72B or AV. Any link?

If you mean this video (other source).....it´s no T-90, wrong caption.

No. I feel confident in the video of a T-90. The tanks turret was peering down a alley. The T-90 turret is very distinctive.

The vehicle in the link Andreas posted looks like a T-72AV to me. Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not a T-90 variant. The side skirts for example are covered in the earlier type of Kontakt reactive armour blocks, rather than the 3 larger panels that are part of the Kontakt-5 package.

Is there a link to a different video?

Its a T-72AV, one can clearly see the distinctive Kontakt-1 era arrangement on the front of the turret. Syrians don't have any T-90's (unless Russia just shipped some along with those apparent attack helicopters)

Also I checked most of the other videos on CNN (don't know which one you are referring to Stephen) and again they are all T-72AV's, or possibly M1's with the AV style ERA arrangement. The Syrian army also appears to have a few early T-72's with Ural turrets.

Would still be cool If Stephen could provide a link? Anyway, a lot of thigs have been said in the past about russian weapons and Syria, still havent seen any evidence for those accusations. Anyway, back to modelling....
