Strange M2 Halftrack + turret

Just found this interesting "thing", seems a bomber dorsal or ventral turret?
Nice vehicle to model!

Replace dod in email address
... with a cigar in his mouth. But it looks partially obscured by a white stain. You can see what definitely looks like a human ear on the left side.

is 'Indian Chief' You can almost make out the word Chief in bubble letters directly under the Indian face. I have other views of this half track where you can make it out a little more clearly.

The white you see isn't a stain, but the actual surface of the photo worn off, there's more right over the return roller.

I'm not sure, and I don't have my refs here with me, but I believe the gun turret is of the type used for air crew gunnery training. These were mounted on the back of trucks for "on the move" target shooting.

I don't know if the base is from a training truck or not. I suspect it is field improvised, and the turret was salvaged from a B-24, B-26 or A-20.

Note that the turret support base does not match the kind used on the Chevy E5 gunnery training truck at the above link or at this link;
