Hello all
I would like to know when the first SdKfz 251/22 "Pakwagen's" were used in combat. I have read somewhere that it was not before 1945, but I am no sure if this is true.
Thanks in advance.

Antonio

It was supposed to be Pakwagen in a Kanonen-Zug (Gun-Platoon) in one (?) Pz.Gren.Btl (gp) too of a Pz. Division. The first units to receive the 251/22 were in Dec.1944:

Grossdeutschland
25.Pz.div.
9.Pz.Div
11.Pz.Div

Two on units on the eastern front and two on the western front... and can we believe even a whitewash on some?....... Probably.

I am sure there is even more detailed Info regarding units and how they where split up or attached in each Division and further division in 1945.

I haven’t got time to go through my gliederungs, but from memory, they were deployed in small numbers, but not in a uniform way. I remember PGR6 of 7PD reported 1 each in 5 to 8 SPW Coys. on 1Mch45.

PD45 (25Mar45) authorized 9 in 3/PzJgAbt. However, they were issued beforehand and could be found in other units of PD. 17PD for instance reported 4(5) in 3/PzJgAbt.27 on 1Mar45. Probably means 9 on hand, incl. 4 Runners. Will look for others later this morning.

I mentioned in a recent thread Tomas had revealed two examples with the unit name actually stencilled on the nose plate. I'm working on a hazy memory, but I think one read as "PzJagAbt 27". One was published in HpM mag (missing its gun barrel and posted here years ago) and the other in his new MBI book.

It seems December 9 2004, 5:05 AM
It seems that most of the PAK wagens in late 45 was concentrated in the Czech area (well, I have a pic of a Pakwagen from Pommeria from FBB) and on the western front. The first deliveries seem to be to Grossdeutschland, 25PD, 9PD and 11PD.

I have (almost) built a Pakwagen that belonged to 19PD, as they received (I don’t have my reference here) c.10 Pakwagen in March 45 and they were also located in the Czech area. I think, if you look back on older threads, you will find many more units and discussions and speculations on units,.,.,., good hunting!!!!

Yes 3/27 (17PD) and 3/19 (19PD) December 9 2004, 6:23 AM
I haven’t trawled for more yet, but remember 19 PD 1 April 1945 showed 15 JPIV and 19 SPW 251/22's. (3/PJA19).

FBD, FGD, 8, 9 and 11PDs December 9 2004, 6:49 AM
FBD 1Mar45 showed 6 in 4/PGR100. There was no PJA (except for 673 as II/PR102).

FGD 1Mar45. No but 4 SdKfz 234/4 in armd. car company.

8PD 1Mar45. Looks like 1 in 1/PGR98.

9PD 6Mar45. Not in evidence, but PJA had 12 SPW 251 which is suspicious.

11PD 1Feb45. Not in evidence, last return I have.

7PD December 9 2004, 7:17 AM
5 to 8/PGR6 (7PD) showed 1 each 1Mar45. A separate note said there were 9 in total.
