Ok...the Famo is a Sd.Kfz9, correct, and it is mainly used as a tank recovery/maintenace vehicle. So is the Sd.kfz.8 basically a FAMO with extra seats and designed to tow large artillery guns? Where as the Sd.Kfz.6/7 are used to tow smaller field guns......

The Sd.Kfz.8 was primarily the prime mover for the 21cm M18 and 15cm K18. They were towed in two loads, barrel by one vehicle and the carriage by another. The Sd.Kfz.8 was the next step up in size from the Sd.Kfz.7.

The Sd.Kfz.8 and Sd.Kfz.9 are completely different vehicles, just like the Sd.Kfz.7 is different from the Sd.Kfz.6 or Sd.Kfz.8 and so on.

Sd.Kfz.7 - 8 ton capacity
Sd.Kfz.8 - 12 ton capacity
Sd.kfz.9 - 18 ton capacity

Like Steve said, they were two totally different developments. Sd. Kfz. 8 was developed by Daimler Benz and Sd. Kfz, 9 by FAMO.

Hi Thomas,

No hurry. Trumpeter probably has the DB10 chassis with torsion bar suspension. The 88 needs DB9. CRIEL kit, that I also have, unfortunatelly has a very rudimentary chassis.

Best regards,

Jari

If the model is based on the restored vehicle there may be problems since I understand the owners did a best-guess restoration of certain areas.

You are right. Unfortunately there are not documentation on this version, except 4 period photos so some guess works was unavoidable.
