Is this a command tank marking?

I have seen R, R01,R02 and even up to R07......so would "I" also be marked the same way .... "I", I01, I02 etc.....

What would a plain... "I" mean? Would a vehicle(or tank for say) in addition have any types of metal pennants and/or cloth pennants when marked with an "I" ???

Mark,

The 'I' is actually the Roman numeral for '1' and was used on battalion command vehicles. You can find vehicles marked with 'I', 'II' and 'III' followed by '01', '02' etc. for 1st, 2nd and 3rd battalion.

Vehicles with the 'R' were regimental command vehicles.

Pennants were not commonly used on tanks but could still sometimes be seen. I recollects seeing some used in North Africa for example.

Regards,

Tom
