Morning,
Curious as to the new Idler set up on this kit? Was this a Krupp only design, and when did it start appearing? Was it the only design used from that point on? Did the Stug IV suffer from the shortage of remote MGs and grenade launchers the III did? From photos, it also appears the 4 to 3 return rollers came on line before the new extended hull sides with towing eyes.
So is there any production change timeline from specific Stug IV changes and up grades? As has been recently stated, these would generally mirror the changes going on with the Pz IV and Stug III. BUT, I've never seen a Stug IV without the remote MG if it had the pedestal for it. I've never seen a PZ.iV with standard towing set up but 3 return rollers. So some things had to be different in the process? Thanks, John S.

Hi John
Here is a post on the idler support, analysis of the images may help place the time frame:

I am sure I have seen an image of a Stug IV with a plate over its MG mount - I will have a look tonight.

Also wanted to inquire about the new drivers hatch? Did it come on line before the new roof, with it?
Also the kit has new tracks. I started looking, and this type is much mote common than I realized. Very nice addition. Especially since the Fruil version of this track came out recently (at $51.00 retail!!!!).

... was one of the first production changes made.

Photos show the new layout still with Zimmerit, horizontal exhaust, and initial superstructure roof.

FWIW, I believe that the intial driver's compartment layout was only used for the first month or two of production, making it actually pretty rare.

What's the timespan for the simplified idler mount? Any seen on dimmed vehicles? Was it used all the way til the end? Thanks, John S.

They seem post Zim (Dim?)
and the two surviving Stugs in Poland have the feature which puts it pretty late.
