As the person who made the master for the Resicast vehicle, I wonder where they got the information from ?

I know just how little is available, having measured and photographed the real thing, I am intrigued as to where they got their information.
In my case I was threatened with dire consequences by Caterpillars legal team if I used the name Holt.....fortunately some were built under licence by British companies.

It would be interesting to see if they replicated some of the slight errors, which were necessary to be able to cast some parts in resin.

Yes, I posted before I realized Resicast did one and wondered the same thing. I just saw that a plastic Caterpillar Sixty is coming from Thunder Model and I wonder how much of it might be copied from the L.Z. conversion for the Trumpeter S-65 Stalinetz tractor (and of course, Trump' has copied other resin kit in the past!)

They are so cool, but, who will do the first tracktion engine in 1:35 plastic? I dont want to build it from scratch (my dad has 1:5 scale drawings for the live steam thing, i think its a aveling & porter one) but to much to scratch and the wheels seem impossible to do in plastic and im not good enouh with the lathe.

On the holt, find it on youtube, there are a few around, but i dont know how much original those are and if those are really 75 ones. The one on show on the dorset steam fair should be a 75, and a great motivator to get back and building models

On the Great war forum units and formations section there is a march posting Tank British or German. It also mentions the Russians received 80 Holts and the Germans captured a few. there is a picture of a 120 hp one the Germans captured at Minsk.

This is from the book "Diary of general Vladimir Mikihailovich Bezorzov Commander of the Russian Imperial Guard" ; 26 Feb/11 mar 1915 "New tractor drawn 6 inch field guns of the Schneider type with a range of 12 versts have arrived." The guns are most likely 152mm Putilov M10 field guns. Landships.org has them being towed by Allis-Chalmers tractors.

I just received this kit today. I've never been a big Roden fan, at least for larger scale stuff. I'm not overly impressed with the Holt kit.  Overall, it is relatively simple.  Although the box is big, the sprues would fit in 1/4 the box.  Most of the large pieces have huge mold knock out marks that are either deeply recessed (chassis) or thick raised pegs (track link).  Engineering and molding are pretty basic; about like an old Alan or RPM Mirage kit. The molded plastic suspension springs look like garden "doodle bugs".  I was very disappointed with the corrugated metal roof - there is one long sink mark it's entire front to back length where the center support beam runs on the inside. This will be impossible to fill.  The mark is so deep it looks like a shallow groove with a row of recessed rivets down the center.  Overall there are not many small parts at all, no photo-etch, and an overall very basic look.  I suppose the $50 or $60 USD price tag is a plus over the $275 USD Resicast kit. On the other hand, the Resicast kit has to be a whole lot better.  In the mininum this kit will need a new roof and new tracks.  I can't comment as to overall accuracy.

I had a good look over the kit and agree there are certain parts that need attention. The steering wheel is way out of register, I do not like having to "break" the mud-guards to get the curve either.
There are a few nice touches, but the roof needs side screens and where is the stowage ???? These vehicles did a few miles to the gallon, plus the tracks were lubricated by drip feed from an oil tank under the chassis. 
The price comparison between the resin kit and plastic kit, actually bears no relation to the amount of research. When you consider the resin kit has a CD of all my walk round and crawl under photo's, IF Roden used the resin kit as a basis, they got a real bargain !!! The example I used was never sent to France by the way. It was based at Avonmouth docks and used for towing heavy equipment prior to loading on ships.

I have a build blog on the kit over at Track Link.  It's an awful kit and about on par with something like the Alan Su-76. Molding is pathetic with much carving, filling, sanding and effort being needed on almost every piece. Most parts are just smooth shapes with no detail. What detail there is is coarse. About the only "good" aspect is that the fit is not bad. To build the kit into a halfway decent model it needs a new roof, tracks, treadplate areas, and a host of small details. For example the engine doesn't actually connect to anything. Nor do the rear sprockets.
