We're proud to be publishing a new book from David Doyle on the history of the Cleveland Tank Plant. The book covers the history of Cleveland Plant 2, originally constructed to build the B-29 Superfortress in World War II. In 1950, the plant was converted to tank production, beginning with the M41 Walker Bulldog light tank and the M42 Duster antiaircraft vehicle. Other vehicles produced at the plant include the M56 Scorpion tank destroyer, the M108 and M109 self-propelled guns, the M114 reconnaissance vehicle, the M551 Sheridan light tank, and finally the US prototypes of the MBT-70 before the plant closed in 1970. This book covers the history of the plant, from its construction, its involvement with the B-29 program and the Fisher XP-75 Eagle fighter, production of military vehicles at the plant, and its closure. A significant portion of the book is dedicated to showing the products of the Cleveland Tank Plant in operational service.
The book is 112 pages, softbound, with over 200 photos in colour and black & white. Price is $25.00USD, but will be available at the MVPA show in Cleveland next week (June 21-24 at the I-X Center, the former Cleveland Tank Plant!) for $20.00USD. It's also available from www.daviddoylebooks.com. The publisher, G-104 Press, does not have website yet, but we're working on it. We're also hoping to bring you more books covering military vehicle production and other topics of interest to the military vehicle modeller, historian, and enthusiast.
We hope to see you in Cleveland!
