Gentlemen
i don't know if it's the right place to post...
Somewhere in Sinai, Egypt, between Gaza and El Arish in the end of 1967 war war, some pics have been taken of an railways station, perhaps on the old Palestien Railways lign :

named El Abtal :

behind this station, as you could see on the first pic, there is a war monument :

does somedody knows what is it and where is it ? a WWI memorial ? Anzacs mémorial ? a WWII memorial ? a 1956 war "victory" memorial ?

thanks everybody
Tommy

Hi Tommy

I can't help you with the monument, but I guess you're right about the Sinai Railway station :

Tommy, the memorial looks like it may have the Italian shield on the front of it. I guess it's a WWII memorial?

Maybe both the monument and the station are long gone, considering the urbanization of the area ...

Hi Tommy
This one got me really going, and the amateur detective in me just had to find out the answer. From what i've been able to discover this is a Monument of the Unknown Soldier, located near to El Arish. I used the info that Henri posted and did some google searches in Arabic, its appear the monument is still standing. As yet I haven't been able to find much info in English, but maybe this helps:

http://www.el-balad.com/101662/mbrok-yd ... hor-a.aspx (In Arabic, shows the base of the monument)

http://gate.ahram.org.eg/UI/Front/Inner ... ntID=63603 (In Arabic again, see the middle photo, its small but clearly this is the same monument)

https://sinainews.wordpress.com/page/19 ... acd987.jpg[/img]" alt="[linked image]">%253Fw%253D300%2526h%253D225&w=300&h=225&ei=FxGKT_fUEM628QPi2tHRCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=618&vpy=148&dur=645&hovh=180&hovw=240&tx=141&ty=80&sig=109945327178894640852&page=2&tbnh=131&tbnw=149&start=18&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:18,i:139 (Excuse the size, but i guess it confirms)

As yet I can't seem to find it on google earth.
