Reiko ran a thin hand through her long black hair as she walked down through the castle headed for the great hall. It was the morning after the masquerade ball and she was confident that her plan with Caleb was working to get Emmett's attention. She couldn't help but notice him looking at the pair of them through out the night. Even though her fake dating Caleb was ll to try and make Emmett jealous she actually had a really good time. She loved spending time with Caleb and he was a perfect gentleman to her the whole night. She felt very confident during the ball having been in love with the short white dress she chose. She actually noticed she caught the eyes of a few guys and it made her feel good. She could thank Simone for that, without her help she would have been a disaster.
Stepping through the doors to the great hall she was glad that they had no classes today. It seemed like half the students were still in bed sleeping off the party. Letting her eyes quickly scan the room she found Emmett sitting alone at one end of the gryffindor table. She smiled and walked over to him her low heels clicking as she went. She slid onto the seat next to him her back resting against the table. "I take it you had a good time last night." she said with a giggle taking his appearance in as she spoke.
"No offense but you look like shit sweetie." Reiko spoke giving him a half smile. She wasn't used to seeing him like this, he looked like he hadn't slept the night before and like he was nursing a hangover. She reached over to his plate and grabbed a piece of his toast and nibbled on it as she looked around the great hall. She felt great and compared to everyone else it seemed she was a rarity. She had a great night, dancing with Caleb all night and then that goodnight kiss he gave her left her weak in the knees. She had gone to sleep happy and woke up with most of her makeup still in place, her hair having managed to keep its soft curls overnight. She turned her head back to Emmett hoping he would say something, she was praying her plan was starting to work.
Emmett was having a pretty great time. To him, the dance wasn't over yet. Sure, the Great Hall was back to normal, but in his mind, the night hadn't yet ended. The band was gone, the decorations taken down, the punch drank. Emmett himself had enjoyed quite a lot of the punch, although after drinking it he'd noticed his tongue had been quite willing to say whatever came to his mind, which had made his converastions with people interesting. Well, his with Liam was certainly that. Interesting. Emmett's roommate had kissed him in front of everyone - including Ashton Hargrave, Liam's boyfriend. Or ex-boyfriend. Emmett wasn't sure exactly what was going on with that, but the look on the Slytherin's face had been priceless.
The rest of the night was a bit of a blur, but that was likely because after Liam had fallen asleep, Emmett decided to continue the night on his own. Without Liam to distract him, his mind kept drifting back to seeing Reiko with that Caleb guy. Merlin, did that tick him off! Why in the world she was with that Slytherin Emmett would never understand. Sure, he'd known Reiko had a thing for Caleb, but seeing them together at the dance, Caleb's arms around Reiko... Well, it had infuriated Emmett to the point where he couldn't sleep. But sitting on his bed in the dark watching Liam sleep made him realise what a creep he was being, so Emmett had entertained himself by nicking a bottle of firewhiskey from Callum's trunk. And then he sort of drank the whole thing and moved onto a second. Emmett, being not the type of guy to drink often, had gotten drunk really fast. And an unsupervised, drunk Emmett kept drinking until he found himself in the Great Hall, sipping the firewhiskey as well as some of the punch he'd found in the kitchens, which he'd convinced the House Elves to let him have. The stuff tasted great, even though it didn't taste so good mixed with the taste of firewhiskey - nor the pack of cigarettes he'd smoked his way through. But eventually Emmett didn't really taste either.
He'd finished off his firewhiskey minutes before the first students began trickling into the Great Hall, and breakfast had appeared on the tables, startling a very drunken Emmett.
He'd stuffed his face with eggs and toast at first, until the sight of a Slytherin walking by reminded him what had kept him up all night in the first place. Caleb and Reiko. Reiko and Caleb.
Emmett clenched his fists and pushed his plate away, feeling nauseous. Whether that feeling was from thoughts of his ex and a Slytherin or the firewhiskey mixed with juice, he wasn't exactly sure. But he'd just had an idea. He was going to find Caleb and give him a piece of his mind. And if his words came out too slurred to understand, he'd show Caleb what he meant with his fists. No, Emmett had never been in a fight before, but that didn't mean he couldn't take the guy. Liquid courage, right? Wasn't that how it worked? You drink and you become strong. Or brave. Or something. Yeah, well, he was a Gryffindor, and maybe Caleb was older than him, but what difference did a year make? Caleb had no right being with Reiko. Because... Well, Emmett didn't have a reason as to why yet, but he was sure he'd come up with one eventually.
Just as he was about to stand up and march on down to the dungeons (or stagger on down - he doubted he'd be able to walk all that straight and proper in his current state. He was very quite sloshed), Reiko sat down next to him.
He made a face at her when she commented on his appearance, and glanced down at his shirt, which he still wore from last night. It was wrinkled, but he thought it looked all right. A little ruffled. He'd lost the jacket somewhere. Maybe in his room or the kitchens. He'd find it eventually.
He looked back up at her and smiled. She still looked beautiful, just like she had last night. Except she was no longer in her dress.
"I' was fun," he slurred, leaning towards her slightly. "Although I wanted to dance with you. But you were too preoccupied," he said, narrowing his eyes. "Did'jou have a good time with Caleb?" he asked, then wrinkled his nose and took a drag of the cigarette he was making his way through. Luckily for Emmett, who was currently oblivious to rules, there were no teachers around to catch him smoking. "You looked way too good last night to be with him. You shoulda gone with someone else. Hey, did you try the punch last night? The red stuff was really good. The Finnigan kid told me. Wish there were more..." He trailed off, distracted, and reached for a glass of water. But instead of picking it up to drink, he knocked it over, spilling the clear liquid everywhere and all over his plate, sogging up the piece of toast he'd been halfway through before he lost his appetite.
"Oops," Emmett said, rubbing his face with his hand and wiping off a grin. It was rather funny, the way the glass had just spilled like that. At least, Emmett really thought so. He met Reiko's eye and laughed, smoke puffing out of his mouth with each guffaw.
