OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) A person familiar with the injury says Baltimore Ravens star linebacker Terrell Suggs has torn his Achilles tendon while working out in Arizona and may miss the 2012 season.

The Associated Press' NFL Defensive Player of the Year is expected to have surgery next week, according to a person who spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the injury have not been released.

The Ravens issued a statement Thursday saying they are in contact with Suggs, he will see a specialist next week, and "we'll know more at that time."

The injury is a major blow to one of the NFL's top defenses, which also boasts linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed. The Ravens went 12-4 and won the AFC North last season.

I am sorry to hear that. I wanted to beat the Ravens when they were at full strength.

I never root for a rival to be injured, but I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that this injury helps the Bengals.

Anyone else, I would say, oh that sucks for the guy...but this loud mouth jack azz...
Not going to lie, don't care if he is injured, just glad we don't have to watch him against the Bengals.

This guy plays with more heart than probably the entire Bungles squad put together.

Whitworth plays well against him but don't be surprised if he comes back toward the end of the season and makes a play in our 2nd game against Baltimore.

"We do do, and we do it at a very, very high level," Lewis said.

I'm not going to feign disappointment over this injury. But I'm not sure it will make any difference against the Bengals for the following reasons.

1. The first game is against the Ravens AT Baltimore.
2. It's a prime time game featuring Bungalized, Brownmorphed, not-ready-for-prime-
time players.
3. Marvin never has his teams ready for the first game of the season anyway.
(last year vs. Cleveland was a fluke brought about by a tricky quick snap.)

BALL SO HARD

Seriously, fun player to watch. This is disappointing but I wouldn't count Suggs out for the whole year. He's the type of player that you know will work his butt off to get back out there.

No way Suggs plays at all this year. Even a great athlete can only heal so fast.

Also Suggs is pushing 30 and you don't heal as fast then as when you are in your mid 20's. We'll see.
