So, what do you guys think of the rebooted Earth 2? I haven't really been reading it, but I really do not like the idea of a lot of the updates. I also don't like the idea of all the great JSA stories I read being wiped out.

I think a lot of what made those characters great has been removed. I really liked the legacy idea. The idea that if Wally is having troubles, he can go talk to Jay. Jay is more or less retired, but when the threat is big enough, he can step in and help. By putting all of the JSA heroes on a separate Earth, that concept is completely gone.

Now I'm not saying that a series without the "older statesmen mentors to a younger generation" concept could not ever work. Back when I heard that Earth 2 was going to get its own series (and back when I still had an ounce of faith in DC and the way they handle things) I figured a good way to handle it (and part of me was hoping they would do this) would be to set the series in the 1950s. Your characters are in their 40s and 50s and are sorta in that sweet spot in between "prime of life" and "retired" You could do a LOT of material with the 1950s America and the full cast of DC's golden Age superheroes. It could have a rotating cast, and that would last a good 5 years at the very least. Sadly, what they actually did was basically take the names and superhero identities of the golden age characters and wipe them completely clean and put them in an "extreme" new reboot. bleh. I agree, a lot of what made the characters great is gone. The idea of legacy, tradition, and guiding the young heroes was a great aspect of the JSA before the reboot. I'd also say that I am not happy with them removing pretty much all of the JSA legacy characters, or even the possibility of some of them existing. For example, I don't see a way that we could see Jade or Obsidian now with how Alan Scott was altered.

Agreed. In fact, all of the characters who are associated with Infinity Inc (Atom Smasher, Fury, Northwind, etc) pretty much cannot ever exist now, because all of those characters were in some way related to the JSA characters. They were a second generation of heroes, and with the JSA now being in their late 20s or whatever, none of them can exist. Which sucks, because I really loved Infinity Inc from the 1980s. What I read of it, anyway.

This was one of the main things that just boggled my mind when they did away with a lot of the history. there are just way to many characters that either flat out can't exist like they used to or their history and possibility of showing up are pretty questionable because of other things that have been erased or do not exist.

Wasn't there supposed to be a new version of the JSA (or an older version returning) with DC Rebirth? So far it's been about a year since Rebirth started, and I'm not seeing any evidence of a new JSA happening anytime soon. Now that I think of it, I think there was some rumors of a new Legion happening with Rebirth, too. But outside of a couple of characters appearing in the present day, I'm not seeing much evidence of that happening either.

IDK, but don't give up the ghost right yet. They're still going to be rolling out some new titles here & there, still under the Rebirth imprint. The reason I know this, is because I just started seeing ads for one that I know I'll want: Plastic Man!

Did you see the news that Plastic Man is going to be part of a new team book? It's called the Terrifics, and it's got Mr. Terrific, Phantom Girl from the Legion, and Metamorpho. It's basically DC's version of the Fantastic Four. Everyone on twitter is losing their minds over it, but I'm not sure if I'm interested.
