The new FOX series SHOTS FIRED, created by Gina Prince Bythewood (BEYOND THE LIGHTS, THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES, LOVE AND BASKETBALL) and Reggie Rock Bythewood (BIKER BOYZ, DANCING IN SEPTEMBER) tells the story of what happens when a white man is shot and killed by a black officer in self-defense in a small Southern town. Two DOJ officers--played by Stephen James (RACE) and the always-good Sanaa Lathan (SOMETHING NEW,THE FAMILY THAT PREYS,THE PERFECT GUY) are assigned to investigate the case, which leads to other cases that have been ignored in the process. Here's some info about it---I liked the pilot episode:

The brand new Netflix series DEAR WHITE PEOPLE (based on the 2014 indie college comedy satire of the same name) just dropped its first 10-episode season on Apr. 28th (this past Friday.) Of course, a certain number of white folks online started whining about the title (and the show) being racist when the show's trailer debuted in February, despite the fact that they hadn't even seen it yet. The show is also written and executive-produced by Justin Simien, writer/director of the film. Here's some recent articles about the show and reactions to it---apparently there was even a threatened boycott of Netflix by a handful of white folks online who were still pissed off about that title, and still hadn't bothered to actually watch the show, lol:
