Blimey, that was a quick welcome.

The car is a 1986 2.0E auto with factory fitted Brabus bodykit and lowered suspension. It is, allegedly, only one of six made. Not sure how true that is but I've spoken to Brabus UK and Germany and they seem to think it might be.
I've owned the car for 12 years and bought it for my wife as a wedding anniversary present. Three weeks after we bought it we were invovled in a serious accident on the M1 which resulted in it being shortened six inches.

Unfortunately it wasn't rustproofed properly when it was repaired and all the arches have now gone on it. So, what to do with a 20 year old rusty 190 that smokes and burns oil?

How about this!!!!!!!

Bloody hell! :o

By the look of those pics you're going to fit right in! I take it that's a full restore in process?

Looking forward to seeing it unfold.

Welcome to the site! :)

More like a 16v kit to me.

Edit here is a brabus only one of four it has a 3.6 24v engine based appon the 3.0 24v M104 but then bored out etc.

Welcome mate

Looking forward to seeing that completed especially with the body kit. Are you keeping it a stock 2.0ltr or are you going to put something a bit bigger in?

Hi all,

The car is a bit of a strange one. When I bought it I bought it purely on the basis of it being a 190. It was only when I was talking to someone about the car he said had an identical car which he'd bought new and told me about there only being six cars. Apparently they were standard 2.0E's that had the kits fitted and suspension lowered by Brabus before coming to the UK. As Lewis says though, it just looks like a 16v kit.

I've spoken to Brabus UK about the car, but because the current set-up is newer than 1986 they couldn't confirm it but had also heard the story. I was talking to Brabus at the Geneva Motorshow last year and, again, they'd heard the story but couldn't confirm it.

So, it's either a rare car that had some Brabus work done on it before it came to the UK or at some stage in its life someone spent a few quid on it adding the kit and lowering the suspension. At the end of the day it's the wife's car and she loves it and that's all that matters. :D

So, why am I spending so much money on it?

When it was involved in the accident in 1995 we'd ahd the car about a month and Kathryn was driving when we were caught in the middle of a five car pile up on the M1. £5,000 of repair later and it was back on the road.

The car was taken off the road a couple of years ago because it needed some engine work and was taken to a local firm to be done. Six months, and much bull later, someone torched the yard the car was being stored at. 60 cars on site, 55 of them destroyed including the ones either side of ours which only suffered very minor damage. I think this car may be around for a while. :D

As to what it's having done to it now:

New rear arches, new front wings, complete re-paint, new front seat bases, wheels refurbed, new tyres, engine stripped and rebored then rebuilt plus anything else they find along the way.

This is what it looked like just before it went away:

They've been working on it for just under a month and it is now happily out of the paint shop

whilst they do some of the other bits.

Hopefully should get it back all finished in about 5 weeks time.
Then I get my car back from the wife.

^ Crikey, that's a helluva lot of story behind her - I can see why the heart is very much involved in the decision-making process here! She looked good before and will surely look mint when finished - will you be keeping the Taz on the front spoiler?! :P

I would imagine the Taz has gone with the repaint. It was actually called Tazmad as he had a big knife in one hand and Bugs Bunny's head in the other.

The paint is starting to look good. It's still got to be rubbed down by hand and machine polished. Hopefully it will look even better when it's finished.

I'd like to take the credit for the work but I won't.

All the work is being carried out by someone I know through the American Vehicle Owners Club. I'm just writing the cheques. :o
