Welcome to my 2017 growers diary. I have about 8 to 10 inches of snow on my garden since the second week of december! Its slowly melting and hopfully I will be rototilling about the last week in April. This year I will be trying heating cables for the first time ever growing pumpkins. I hope to get my soil warmer and the roots going quicker. This year I will be growing my 1529 Morgan, 1910 Tobeck, 2261 Wallace, and finally I didnt know what my final seed was going to be so I looked up some seeds and found a 1338 Martin and that will be the final seed I will grow this year! For the Long gourds I will grow my 123 Morgan and cross it with a 140.5 Kline! I will post next weekend!

I had some germination problems so I had to regerminate more seeds. I am growing the 1945 daletas from last year, the 1642 wallace, the 1540 tobeck and my 1529 morgan. Plants went in the greenhouse on saturday and showing signs of taking off a day after transplant.I am trying to get some long gourds germinated with no luck right now but I will keep trying. Soil temps for the pumpkins are running in the 60s so thats probably why the plants are starting to take off! Maybe next weekend I will take a pic of the plants!

I havent posted in awile. All the plants are doing good but a little behind from the previous years and ahead from last year. My smallest plant last year produced the biggest pumpkin in the patch! 3 of the 4 plant showing signs it is starting to vine. I am using essential this year and giving it a try on all my plants! Last year for the first time I used epsom salts and had some of the greenest looking plants ever and I will be using it again this year! After 3 weeks and 20 seeds later my 122 morgan long gourd produced a root and planted it this morning. My 140 kline is under grow lights right now. I am behind in growing long gourds from the previous years and hopefully get them planted next weekend! Here is a pic of my 1529 morgan!

Pumpkin update......no pumpkins has been pollinated yet but will be soon! I was looking back at the latest pollination last year was the 1648 wallace that produced my biggest pumpkin in the patch at 1529lbs which was pollinated on july 17th! I think my first pollination will be on my 1529 in about 3 days out and shortly after the rest of my plants will follow after that! My long gourd is starting to climb the trellis!

Pumpkin update...... My 1529 morgan is the biggest pumpkin in the patch right now and has an ott bigger than anyone that has grown a large one in Maine! Hot and humid conditions will continue for the next couple of days and that will keep the pumpkin growing longer! My goal was to get to 1700lbs and it measures out already that. The new 2017 GPC chart says its close to 1800lbs. I guess time will tell and weigh offs is this sunday! This will be my last post until after the weigh offs so I hope to see everyone on sunday!!

I have everything I need for my patch all spread out and now its time to till it all in! I have ordered a new 3000lb digital crane scale that I will be pre checking the weights of the pumpkins before it hits the scales! This will be my last post for 2017! Until then I will start my diaries the first weekend in April!
