Would like to know if anyone passing through happens to have had any run-ins with this entity and what that experience entailed. I am collecting information on this entity. Out of curiousity, and to judge how present this angel is currently in the world. He seems possibly popular among metaphysic/occult students, at least the ones who at all ascribe to the idea of angels.

The name Raziel is from the Semitic root RaZ, meaning "attenuated", "hidden", "secret" or "mystery".

The oldest references to Raziel relate him to the Assyrian deity Izur (Itsuru), & a variant name of Raziel's - "Galizur", refers to what may be his oldest title 'Gale Izur' or 'Gal' izur" - meaning "revealer of the rock" or "revealer of Izur".

The name Raziel would have been Razaya'l in an older aramaic form, but as a Semitic word, vowel usage would have varied somewhat from region to region. Any variation of the root RaZ + El is comparable.

The origins for "RaZ" trace to a root that sourced both the aramaic words "raz" (רָז - "secret / mystery") & "karoz" ("proclamation"), and the Greek "kērýssō" (κηρύσσω - "to herald / proclaim"). This root is likely connected to the Akkadian root family containing: K'Rašu ("proclaimer"), Rašu (meaning "possession" or "concealed") or R'šam ("to inscribe", "record"). If this was indeed the root in his name, it would have been written "Rašu'ilu" even before Razaya'l.

Raziel is also known as "Gal Razayya" ("revealer of mysteries") & "Ruach Chokmael" ("spirit of Chokmah").

Thank you for that information! I find it most interesting that he is called "revealer of the stone", as the story goes that he presented the sepher raziel which was carved onto saphire. Interesting to note also that in the kaballah tree of life the sephiras- the word itself is the hebrew word for saphire.
Why is it, if you know, that in the root RaZ, the Z is capitalized?

Pray tell, any book recommendations you have- such as, where was it you learned he was tied to the deity Izur? Could you tell me about Izur? I googled it and I turned up the name Ashur, but I dont know that its the same. Thank you again for your time.

I have worked with the angels Raziel, Michael, Raphael, Tzadkiel and Haniel. I have created and used my own seals for each of them. Raziel is not just an angel to work with for gaining esoteric knowledge... the truth is, this angel has helped me many times with academic study as well. Raziel actually helped me to successfully complete my PhD in Public Health. If you'd like to know about my experience in ritual with this angel, email me and I will share this with you
