Re: Artist Editions Discussion thread (IDW, Dark Horse, etc)

I definitely remember reading about a Marvel artist that was so disgruntled about giving a share of his artwork to the writer, he cut out all the word balloons and captions from the art with a craft knife, put them in an envelope and mailed them to the writer. I think it might have been Jim Starlin.

Re: Artist Editions Discussion thread (IDW, Dark Horse, etc)

I think for a 17-page story the split was something like 10 / 5 / 2 (Penciller/Inker/Writer).

To his credit, Don Mcgregor always used to give his art pages back to the artists.

Re: Artist Editions Discussion thread (IDW, Dark Horse, etc)

I'd love to see some pages from Rampaging Hulk #4 included, the B&W collaboration between Starlin and Alex Nino. It may not be texbook "cosmic", but it had some pretty wild artwork.

Now we're talking!

I've bought about a dozen of these AEs over the last few years, but the Starlin book is the first one I won't have to think twice about purchasing.

Re: JUSTICE LEAGUE (2017 film) discussion (*spoilers*)

For me, the golden era of DC movies is over. This insubstantial piece of fluff with it's goofy Elfman score, dumb physical comedy (Flash on top Wonder Woman), by the numbers story, and Aquaman pants is sadly forgettable.  There was a golden era? DC has never batted better then 500. Superman III S...

I've always really liked the B&W version of this illustration which was used for the envelope of the "Sibyla" portfolio:

Star-Lord had a couple of black and white issues and two issues of Marvel Spotlight, so there might be enough for his own volume (especially if the Sword in the Star back-up that introduced Rocket Raccoon was included).  All the early Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon stories were recently collected in ...

Cory somehow needs to also squeeze in the first chapter of Avengers #93. It's basically Ant-Man's finest hour (courtesy of Neal Adams) - how can you leave it out ?

I was not familiar with Malibu Comics just read up a little.  Interesting.  Guess Marvel bought the rights but made a bad deal that they ended up not being able to publish the books for some reason they chose not to disclose. Marvel only bought Malibu for its computer colouring department - they we...

I think the Tower that had Beta Ray Bill on it also had Man Thing which would explain the Ploog reference.  Or not. Mike Ploog didn't have any hand in the creation of Man-Thing. He did a memorable 8-issue run in 1974, but that was 3 years after Manny's first appearance in Savage Tales #1. I think s...

The problem I had with the previous edition was that the lettering on the dust-jacket was embossed, so after taking the book out of the slipcase a few times, the gilt on the lettering of the main title started to rub off.  From the photos above, the new edition looks to be exactly the same as the pr...

Re: Marvel's The Prisoner from seventies to be released by Titan

Well, to be fair to Titan, their Prisoner HC hasn't even been solicited yet, so it's not really "delayed".

(Unlike Titan's Charles Vess Book of Ballads Original Art Edition, which was solicited for Sept 17 release).
