Re: COLLECTED EDITIONS standings

Man-Wolf is actually already on the list.

I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of "Horror Omnibus" comes along to sweep up several of the "vol 1" titles remaining in the list (Son of Satan, Morbius, Brother Voodoo, Frankenstein, Ghost Rider).

Re: COLLECTED EDITIONS standings

You mean like the Grand Comics Database? https://www.comics.org/issue/27556/ The main thing you need to know about a Man-Wolf Masterworks is that it would include 7 issues by one of Marvel's greatest artists (George Perez) that have never been reprinted, in any format. Plus, where else can you see a...

I never get tired of looking Mike Kaluta's cover for Unkown Worlds of SF #2.

Wasn't "War Toy" George Perez's first story for Marvel ?

I didn't know Angelo Torres had done work for Atlas in the 50's, but that is some beautiful artwork.

Re: Artist Editions Discussion thread (IDW, Dark Horse, etc)

This post contains the complete warehouse inventory of original Marvel art that was returned to Jack Kirby in 1987 (so anything on this list can probably be considered "legit"): https://ohdannyboy.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/marvel-worldwide-inc-et-al-v-kirby-et_17.html There are some interesting comment...

Re: Movies you like that "no one" else does

I was also thinking that it’s interesting that other than Phillip K Dick,  very few works by the ‘classic’ sf writers ever made it to the screen. Asimov has just one that I can think of, Heinlein just that one, Clarke has a couple (the other being the sequel to 2001). Most of the great (or successf...

Re: Movies you like that "no one" else does

I saw Silent Running for the first time about a year ago and despite some OK special effects it was really creaking with an incredibly unlikeable hero. I don't think Bruce Dern's lead character is supposed to be a "hero" (except perhaps in his own un-hinged mind). One of the things I like about a l...

Re: Movies you like that "no one" else does

How about 'Scarecrow' with a young Al Pacino and Gene Hackman. Scarecrow is a great film, but probably more "neglected" or "forgotten" than "not liked". In about 1980/81 when I was 16 or 17, the BBC had a late night season of obscure (at least in the UK) American films from the 70's. The first film...

Apparently, we have Murphy Anderson to blame for the reduction in the size of original comic art:

I got 103 on the villains. I found that one to be much more difficult because of spelling. I wasn't able to get characters like Surtur because I of my spelling. I got 99 on the villains. I not only recognised ZZZAX, but spelt his name correctly first try, which probably makes me a very sad person.

Re: Movies you like that "no one" else does

Thunderbolt & Lightfoot is an extremely underrated Clint Eastwood film. I'd add Coogan's Bluff (directed by Don Siegel) to that list. Great premise, great cast, great music by Lalo Schifrin, and Clint at his most charismatic. Some of the swinging 60's stuff hasn't aged well, but it's one of those f...

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. If Frank Capra and Fleischer Studios had collaborated on a Saturday morning adventure serial in the late 1930's, it would look something like this film .

Red Nails is like the Sistene Chapel of comics.

I wonder how many hours Barry spent illustrating it.

And how much he got paid for it.

Kane's pencils for his Prisoner issue are quite loose. I'm sure an embellisher like Klaus Janson would have made the final pages look great had the plug not been pulled, but I think the lack of detail is going to be very apparent at Artist's Edition size. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S1f4OFObMKM/U5B3gt...

Re: Are there plans for a Richard Corben Collection?

We could do with a Corben retrospective at Casal Solleric. Their recent "Ditko Unleashed" book was terrific, as are the other books I have from previous exhibitions, on Wally Wood ("Woodwork") and Gilbert Shelton ("Freak Out").
