When I was 9, I got a Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk1 for Christmas. Back then, I was, shockingly, not that good at building, so my dad built and painted it for me.
Recently I noticed Revell have the same kit out in their "Classic" line. I had the idea of building it again, but including 40 years of experience.
Having looked on Scalemates, it seems this kit is at least as old as me! , as it shows on their timeline, 1967, but it says "rebox", so it could actualy be older!!!

Upon opening the box, I was surprised to see that, although the internal detail wasn't up to modern standards, the surface detail was pretty good.

The panel lines and rivet detail is very fine, with flush rivets up front and domed at the rear.

Starting with the interior, a nice decal is provided for the instrument panel. Those exhausts need work!

But some of the sidewall detail needs sorting...

The left side has you putting controls over the access door, so a bit of moving around and scratchbuilding...

I've built this kit several times, the fit isn't great and it could use replacement wheels but a half way decent result can be had.

I don't remember this kit as it is before my time.

I had thought about fixing the faults with the kit (lack of "gull wing", wheels, probably others), as there are resin replacements available, but then I'd loose the charm of such an old kit.

This has turned into a nice easy build. I almost got tempted to order loads of resin and throw it in, but resisted. Maybe I'll get another, and do a comparison....

Apart from the access hatch, the only addition to the cockpit has been the tape harness

Boxed in the undercarriage bays, and fixed the undercarriage down. The original kit has it retractable

The lack of a proper underside is quite striking even to me, to be honest Paul if nothing else the gull wing effect should be done.

There is a company that do a resin replacement for this area. But, if I do that, then it's the exhausts.....the wheels.....etc etc....

Like I say, I may do another.....

The Spitty is now in its camouflage.

Sprayed on by hand, so not the best, but it'll do. I put the decals on last night, but didn't get a photo

I take it that's 74?

As it happens. this is, iirc, the same aircraft as my dad built for me back in '76
