This is directed to LRO ...
This morning I received a direct email to my home computer from Pamsiegel@yahoo.com <pamsiegel@yahoo.com>

WHY???? and how could this happen???? How did this Pam get my email address?

"I read the articles you posted about Lucent pension. Do you think that applies to the US pension? Do you think it is good news or bad news for those still on Lucent US pension?"

Update regarding the email from Pamsiegel .. I discovered that the LRO site has the ability to send an email directly to a poster and in this case since I saw no direct relation to a LRO user handle in the email I became concerned. Also, this email content/question could have been placed on the posting as further concern for an explanation. My apologies to Pam for not responding directing from my email address and posting on LRO, but I felt it could have been a scam etc. email directed at my computer.

Today I changed my settings ...."user contact me" and "allow user to send private messages" to ... "No". I did not change notify me on new private messages because I felt that would link to anything from administration. This setting .. notify me on new private messages .. how does that work? Is it a pre-notification of a private message coming .. if so it didn't work in this case .. the email from Pam came straight in. If this feature doesn't work - it would better to have a user post a wish to contact them so the other user would know an email is coming to them directly .. possible re-setting below might be necessary .. temporarily opening up the ability to email that user.

Users can contact me by e-mail:
Yes x No
Administrators can e-mail me information:
x Yes No
Allow users to send you private messages:
Note that administrators and moderators will always be able to send you messages.
Yes x No
Hide my online status:
Changing this setting won’t become effective until your next visit to the board.
Yes x No
Notify me on new private messages:
x Yes No
Pop up window on new private message:
Yes x No

Setting answer:

I first started with the FAQ:

How do I change my settings?
If you are a registered user, all your settings are stored in the board database. To alter them, visit your User Control Panel; a link can usually be found at the top of board pages. This system will allow you to change all your settings and preferences.

Once your log in locate the screen with this information .. sorry it’s not a good cut & paste .. but you’ll see “User Control Panel” .. click on it and you’re in .. click on the “Board Preferences” tab for the yes/no to settings.

As Board administrator, the setting has been changed to make it more difficult to send email to other users. Appreciate the effort to make the boards more useful for others.
