Berliner Zeitung

Since the end of July 2006 strong media coverage about the success of Loose Change appeared both in the german mainstream print media and on german TV. The Frankfurter Allgemeine, Berliner Tagesspiegel, Berliner Zeitung, der Spiegel and several other papers reported on it as well as the TV stations like ZDF, N24, 3Sat, WDR and Spiegel TV.

In September 2006 a student at Humboldt University Berlin arranged for the screening of LC. Students at the Humboldt University have the right to apply for the free use of the on campus movie theater as long as there is no entrance fee being charged.
Early October the managment reconfirmed the booking for November, 3 7PM

On October, 31 the office of the university cancelled the screening, claiming the contract was applied for on wrongful assumptions.

These extracts from the 2 page letter sent from the office of the President of Humboldt University make it clear:

...“The film ´Loose Change´ covers the terrorist acts of ´September, 11th in the USA and makes allegations, that refer to a direct responsibility of the president of the United States and other people within the US administration, but also to people within the economic system and the society.“

„ the film contains racist and discriminating allegations, whose distribution within the public domain can not be supported. Futhermore the distribution could damage the image of the Federal Republik of Germany and could compromise international cooperation. It could also result in a loss of reputation , in case the Humboldt University should be mentioned in this context.“

„The film is a failure, it presents unacademic assertions and prejudices and pretends pseudoacademic evidence, not
scientific in any respect, both in the american science system and in the european science community.“.....

On Friday about 100 people showed up for the screening - many knew it was cancelled and did not come by . Instead of screening the film, information and free DVDs were handed out.

A press release was sent out on the Friday , stating that this unprecedented incident constitutes a serious infringement on freedom of speech. The Humboldt University which is based in the east of Berlin has had problems allowing free speech before both during the the Nazi regime and than again during communism.

Some businesses in Berlin have decided to step forward – a hairdresser, a CD shop, a bar, a new age shop, a filmstudio and an art gallery distribute the film Loose Change and other 9/11 material for free.
It made it into several small movie theaters and to a film festival.

So far in Berlin 8000 DVDs have been mailed and handed out through these outlets. Since Loose Change with german subtitles has been put online at Google Video in June 2006 the version has been viewed more than 1.2 million times. Small ads for the film ++ appear permanently in Berlin magazines and newspapers. Posters and stickers and brochures are spread too.
