COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Authorities were searching early Friday for a small plane that disappeared from radar while approaching Columbia's airport.
The four-seat plane was about a mile away from Columbia Metropolitan Airport on its final approach to the main runway when it was last seen around 11 p.m. Thursday, airport executive director Mike Flack said.
The plane, a single-engine Cessna 182, was registered to Four Seasons LLC of Wilmington, Del., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
It took off from the Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport in Virginia around 8:30 p.m., according to flightaware.com, a flight-tracking Web site.
Flack said he did not have any additional information about the plane or anyone on board.
The airport reported fog and declining visibility of 1 1/2 miles around the time the plane disappeared, according to the National Weather Service.
