Hello Ladies:

I have been off the boards for a while since my last failed cycle. You may remember that I was on the full immune treatment with an RI (prednisone, heparin, intralipids, aspirin, metanx, etc.). He is now recommending a surro. We are not dealing with it or thinking about any of it right now as life has been too challenging to think about it.

I am getting back on my feet with a little help from antidepressants. But I have a question which I hope some of the immune folks might have some thoughts on.

I have noticed a sudden onset of what seem like autoimmune problems -- I am already diagnosed with hypothyroidism and wheat sensitivity (related to IBS), but now I am noticing:

-extremely dry and irritated eyes, with eye floaters - wondering if I have Sjogrens since I have had repeated bouts of blepharitis.
-very sore knuckle joints in my index fingers and most fingers on my right hand, it takes a few hours in the morning for me to be able to close my fingers into a fist.
-odd muscle soreness in toes and knees here and there
-suddenly, it is overnight it seems, my wedding ring hardly fits. My knuckle, while sore, does not seem larger...not sure what is going on.
-my stomach has a little pooch and is still grey/bluish from the heparin shots...2 months later...is that normal?
-some of the progesterone shot spots in my rear have nodules and occasional nerve pain.

I guess I am wondering if I am having some sort of autoimmune flare and wondering what I might do about it.

Any thoughts?

I have done 3 DE cycle in the last year and now I am having various problems. I was not doing any immune therapy however.

-I have swelling in my feet and hands. My wedding rings no longer fit. I had this during cycling but it seemed to correspond to the estrogen more than anything esle and went away.

-I still have neuropathy from the progesterone shots. Last one was in mid May.
-I have low vitamin D (could be related to the depression). I am now taking an extra 2000iu daily
-I get swollen frequently including abdominal bloating
-I have a cough that they are contributing to acid reflux (which I have no symptoms of other than the cough and it started during my first DE cycle).
-I now have elevated BP which is not going down even though I am off all medications. This one is really freaking me out.

I also have elevated WBC which I now have to go see a hematologist about but that may predate my DE cycles. Now it could be that I am just getting older and falling apart (!) but I am working all of these things out with my GP before I go further. After I finish all of her testing I think I will go forward with a RI to see if they find anything.

If you discuss with your doctor I would be interested to hear what they say.

and / or autoimmune issues. Sorry, I can't think of what it's called in English. I had some bad symptoms a couple of years ago that turned out to be a bad bone infection, but the symptoms included all-over sore joints. They were able to rule out autoimmune illness before they found what it was. They sent me to a doc who specialized in treating arthritis patients.

I HOPE that for you it's going to be something reversible, like coming off the steroids too fast or something like that.

I am so sorry about the cycle.

Minniet - I have been following your story and hope you are feeling better everyday.

Do you live in the NE? I have had lyme diseases twice and some of the symptoms are similar.

I think you should check on that. I never got the bulls eye or found the tick.

This is something my PCP is thinking. My eye doctor said the dry eyes are a result of my age and being female. My PCP elaborated with the estrogen theory and how estrogen drops eye dryness can result.

I have had dry eye problems since I was very young. It might be age related for some people, but it wasn't for me.

Yes, I have gone through some of what you are going through.

Dry eyes was for me age related, I think, but I can no longer wear contact lenses. I'm stuck in my glasses all the time b/c contacts now drive me insane due to dry eyes.

I go through periodic bouts of joint pain, mostly in my finger joints but also in my knuckles a bit. Because it comes & goes, I have never looked into it, but it can last weeks or even a few months & then it's gone again.

The stomach bruising can last a really long time, as in many months. My memory has faded significantly but I recall it took close to a year for it to completely go away. Crazy.

Some nerve pain can linger, too, from the shots. I've seen others post on this before.

I think it's worth considering seeing a specialist, like a rheumatologist, since you have so much going on, but it's also possible it's a flare that will resolve on its own in a few months.

I do believe it's autoimmune related, but trying to find answers can be like chasing a ghost, so I have not tried to find answers on the joint issues. (I have numerous family members with autoimmune issues, so I'm speaking based on what they went through to get answers, often unsuccessfully despite troubling symptoms. Very frustrating.)

To the extent it's helpful, I am aware that dry eyes can be a by-product of hormone fluctuations (many pg women, for example, get dry eyes from a drop in androgen levels). Seymo - wonder if it's your body/hormone levels trying to get back into sync after your past cycles? Just a thought. SMRC

I am not sure what I will do, I do think there is some autoimmune component, but the treatments do not sound so positive. I am going to increase my fish oil intake and consider asking about sjogrens, just to make sure I don't injure my eyes. I have had problems with my eyes since I had a terrible flu in my late 20s (it may have been mono) which took months to get over...and that is pretty much when my thyroid went out, etc. I just don't want the dryness to cause damage to my corneas.

I am sorry we are both going through so much pain.
