Hi ladies

I'm trying to keep up...I really am (I even have a notebook) but it's all such a lot to start to organize. Number one priority for me is a donor I can talk to (ideally even email or have a phone conversation with) and someone open to ongoing contact at 18 with offspring (+ donor sibling registry). I know some of you have found something like that. It's more important to me than whether she looks anything like me. I gather by reading for the past few months that probably means i'm going to be looking for an agency donor since so many clinic donors seem to be anon. So do I contact an agency first ? And then find my donor and then see what clinics that agency has good contacts with? Or find a good clinic first and then start looking for my donor and try and wrangle the clinic/donor links ? I would be travelling to the U.S from Asia for this (caucasian from Australia but working here on contract) so the location - for me - within the U.S isn't such a concern although California is probably closest. Or should I link up with an experienced lawyer first and then see who he/she recommends ? If I could have all my wishes I'd like a multi-try guarantee program (since I only found out this week from a post -below- that there is even a thing such as this).

Any suggestions on where to start ?

Al

Most agencies have donors who are open to contact, so I would recommend finding an agency that is good and fits your needs (there are some who have more Asian donors, for instance). I think someone posted here a few weeks ago looking for agency recs; might scan back through the posts to see if you find some.

Once you have the agency, you can find the donor, and know where they are located. At that point, you can locate a clinic near them that serves your needs--there are usually several to choose from in an area, and most will have some sort of guarantee program. Since you are looking at agency donors, there is a significant possibility that you will go through more than one--they are not tested up-front, so there is greater risk that they may have a medical issue or just flake out.

If you have the money for it, there are people out there who can coordinate and manage the search for you, too, if you're feeling too overwhelmed.

I'm someone who posted about agency recs so maybe it was me . You mentioned there are people who can co-ordinate all this...how do I find/contact them? I'd be interested in comparing what they charge for that service vs what I might lose in newbie mistakes with sending $ for donors that back out, agencies that aren't all they say they are etc. It seems like such a minefield....

I can't think of a clinic who will interfere with how you want to work with a donor. But the right clinic can give you success. I am in ca, there are great clinics here, bu you have to go to the right ones. Lots of agencies too.

So I searched and searched agencies until I found her. Ya you will get much more information and communication, with an eye to the future as well, by finding an agency donor and working out the details. Then she had to be screened and approved by my clinic which is routine.

When we went back for a repeat cycle with her though, we asked the agent to find out which she had her best cycles already (she was a popular agency donor and had already cycled with top clinics all over). Then we switched to that clinic, she stimmed better there IMHO.

You need a good clinic, and they have their protocols. You need a good donor, and that could take some time to find -- it took me a year (we are using an agency).

They are separate things. However, if you get a good donor and have a subpar clinic, that is not going to get you where you want to go.
