The final issue (#6) of the Logan's Run: Last Day comics has hit the stands today. I picked up my copy a few hours ago.
Now that this series is over, I have mixed feelings about the comics. What started out as very promising, well scripted and superbly drawn has lost something along the way.
It all seemed to change (and not in a great way) at Issue #4. Issue #4's cover was a huge letdown and the paper used for the comic was extremely different than the previous three issues. It felt as though I were reading an entirely different comic from an entirely different company. And it was unfortunate, as the entire issue was of Hell and BOX. The story stayed true to the book pretty much and the art was still superb. The overall 'physical' quality of the issue was a huge let down and the one part of the art that did let me down was the ice sculpture - it looked very plain and seemed rushed. I don't know, I was expecting a beautiful piece of comic art there - alas, there was none.
Issue #5 - all of the ART was different! Logan did not look like Logan anymore. He looked older (a LOT older) - like he aged 10 years over night! The characters of Francis and Gant were drawn totally different, too. Gant was the perfect badass in the previous comics - but at Issue #5 and 6, he just didn't seem the same. I was ready for the big confrontation between him and Logan, but it did not hold the same impact for me viewing the action with these newly drawn characters. I almost didnt' recognize Francis anymore. The excellent story was now lost for me due to all these dramatic changes. At least the physical quality of the actual comics was back for Issues #5 and 6 (slick pages and better looking covers).
I'm not sure what will happen with these issues in the future (value-wise), but I'm not holding my breath. I doubt that they would ever go up in value because of all the changes that occurred during the series' turbulent run (production delays, change of artists, quality of paper used in Issue #4, etc). I've heard many of you were not able to find these in stores, and others that were had trouble finding the last few issues. Seems like some stores gave up on the series and chose not to stock them anymore leaving fans to find those later issues elsewhere.
I am being told that Bluewater's followup series - Logan's Run: Aftermath - is scheduled to hit stores this May. I certainly hope that they are able to do a complete run with the same people involved for this series, and that the delays and such that happened with the previous series doesn't happen again with this one. And I do hope they get a different artist. I, personally, do not like the one that finished the last series.
