Does anyone have any memories of this Broward band?"Tough times never last. Tough people do".-- DK 57

Other than sharing the low stage at The Place, them opening with Steve Miller Band's Living in The USA and the bass player having a 'Dutch boy Paint' haircut... I can't recall a thing!

I do remember the Body Shoppe. They were a great band! We (The Noblemen) played with them in a battle of the bands at the Cloverleaf Mall - the one we won our Criteria Studio recording session at. I thought for sure they would beat us. I can still clearly see those hot go-go girls in their cages dancing while the bands played - what great fun it all was. ~~ Craig Reid

I can add a little bit about them to get the ball rolling. I think it was in late 1968 (early '69) that they played for a spell at the Place when we (FUGUE) were a house band there. I cant recall any members names but they were sort of quiet and laid back, perhaps due to their music style WEST COAST. They were really good at it. I dont know how the locals took to the music but I appreciated it and remember in particular some awesome renditions of many Jefferson Airplane songs, especially 3/5 of a mile in 10 sec. When the Fugue lost half its founding members (Vince Deegan to the CLEFFS OF LAVENDER HILL and Bill & Craig Cherry to STILL LIFE) I discussed a merger with the lead player and bass player of the BODY SHOPPE who were having some problems of their own. Alas, our styles were too different to make it happen. The Fugue reconstituted with V. Deegan but I don't know what happened to the BODY SHOPPE. Anyone have other memories of the band or the individual members?

There were two brothers,Rick Bowers and ???? Bowers. I forgot his name. Rick played bass.I can't remember how they sounded. They lived by Hollywood Hills Elementary near Taft street and Park road.Rick was a tall guy and his brother was kinda short. It seems that they were always together.I can't remember who was on drums though Rich Blackburn comes to mind. stratman

Wasn't the Body Shoppe originally called The Calientes?"Tough times never last. Tough people do".-- DK 57

Two P's and an E. Whats up with that. Before I get corrected by a Limester I think Rick Bower played guitar not bass.It was a Rickenbacker,I think. stratman

                      Jeff,
Here's a photo I found of The Body Shoppe. The Bower brothers (in glasses), Rich Kutcher (Drummer, 2nd from left), Kit Potamkin (of Pontiac Dealership fame - far right) and two others I can't recall. When I have time I'll try to dig up some more old gems and pass them along. Thanks for your work on this site. Chuck Kirkpatrick (who remains one of the most talented/gifted musicians to come out of the south florida scene) is an old and dear friend along with his equally talent brother Scott. I hadn't been back to this site since Cleve died and I was surprised to see the comments on Bible - the band. Thanks again and I hope I can figure out how to upload this damn photo.
                      Best Regards,
Sandy Meyer (Gas Co, Proctor, Bible)
