In the last 30 days I changed the coil of my Altezza (4-cylinder beems engine) twice, I'm desperate because I do not know what could be causing this coil burning ... Someone help me please!

I did not even change the spark plugs, just the burned coil.

Where did you get the replacement?? Was it an 02236 or an 02239?? Toyota or Chinese??

I've had one fail too, and I'm just awaiting the replacement. They are not available in Aussie, so the options were one from Nick, one from Perth, one from Canada or from China.

if it was a genuine Toyota replacement I think you're just unlucky. However worn plugs with a wider gap do stress them more.

Hi greeneyes,

The reference of my coils is 02236 and the brand is DENSO, I am not sure if are the best one.

Those are the originals, correct for the Altezza from 1998 until the facelift.

Then they fitted the 02239 coils, which also run in the Calidinas, and they are considerable cheaper. I don't know how interchangeable they are, but yours was the right one. Its odd it failed, just check the plug gap or fit new plugs.

Seems the 02239 coils don't work, I've just tried a brand new one and the misfire still follows the coil from cyl to cyl.

So 02236 are the only option. I haven't tried the Chinese ones they sell for 3SGE, but I was told they don't work in Altezzas.

I'm in the UK and I fitted this one (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-TOYOTA-A ... 1438.l2649) which is a non gen one years ago to my RS200 and still going strong (probably jinxed it now! LOL)

What greeneyes said about the plugs makes sense though as at the same time I realised all my (relatively new) NGK iridium plugs were worn away! Turns out they were probably fake ones because i got them off ebay.... i refitted the old Denso plugs I still had and then few months later I bought genuine NGK iridiums from my motor factor and been all good since then.

So I'd be checking the gaps on the plugs at the very least and/or thinking of a new set if they are getting long in the tooth :)

Definitely also check the condition of the spark plugs.
