After Queen Clare visited Camelot on the request of her husband, King Eunan of Irick, she set in motion the peace talks that would end the years of war between Camelot and Irick. It was during this peace talks that word from Hadrian's Wall was recieved, sending Eunan to Camelot as well. The decision for Uther was to either accept the treaty agreements and become allies with Irick or face the battle against the Druids alone.
In the North, the Druids were stirring and creeping ever closer to the wall that seperated The North of Albion from the South. If the managed to cross and unite with their brothers in the south, Camelot would be no match for the force of magic from even the most peaceful of Druid-folk. Uther signed the treaty and knights from Camelot and Irick went to the wall.
They were joined by Camelot's allies in Cornwall. They managed to win the battle, but of course the war never ends. With a great number of druids slaughtered on the battle field, they were forced back once again. Of those that were injured or did not manage to evade capture, were brought back to Camelot to be publically executed. It was to be a symbol of Uther's resistance to Magic and a warning once again that magic users and rebellion against Albion would not be tolerated.
However, whilst Uther's attentions were directed to the North, and on the Byrne's who he still distrusted. An old enemy emerged. Having forseen her death at the hands of Merlin, she recruited her foster-daughter Morgause to return to Camelot and aid her in the battle against Uther and now the new danger of Merlin. She alone knows of Merlin's true power.
Morgause, unable to do any harm to Camelot whilst her sister remains there, begged Nimueh to help her recover her lost sister and bring her to the Isle of the Blessed to learn how to use her powers. Nimueh agreed and together they combined their magic to unleash upon Camelot a horrific curse.
To each civilian of Camelot, a ghost of their loved ones appeared. These were no friendly ghosts with words of comfort but rather cold and bitter echos. They twisted realitity in order to cause as much suffering as possible. As it drove everyone mad, Camelot was weakened and Morgana easier to take, though she too suffered the visions of the dead. Unable to take anymore, Merlin, lost and confused sought out the Dragons help. He learned of the Old Religion and of his true calling and set off the find Nimueh.
Knowing what a danger Merlin posed, she did not want to fight and instead proposed an alternative. She would release the curse if Merlin brought her Morgana. Unsure of what else to do and worrying over the health of his friends, Merlin agreed and the following night tricked Morgana into drinking a poison to render her unconcious before delivering her to Nimueh.
Still guilt-ridden and weakened by Nimueh's curse, Merlin had agreed a terrible price for the Dragon's wisedom and was forced to honour it. With no way out, he agreed to set the Dragon free on the condition that he leave Camelot for good. Kilgarrah of course, had other ideas...

It is Merlin's to guide and protect his Prince until he takes the throne and unites Albion. But he still has a lot to learn, he does not yet know the full extent of his powers or even his own birthright.

PRINCE ARTHUR PENDRAGON
: To begin with, Arthur was arrogant and selfish. He bullied his servants and looked down on all those beneath him. Over time he has begun to change into the man he is destined to be, a great leader. He inspires his men and his people and does all he can to protect them from harm. His fear of magic stems from his father's hatred and he is unaware that his own sister is a seer or that he himself was born of old magic. In time he will come to respect Merlin for who he really is, until then, it is up to Merlin to teach him that not all magic is bad.

: It will not be long before Morgana knows who she truly is, the bastard daughter of Uther Pendragon and it will only deepen her feelings of distrust toward him. She lives in fear of her secret being found out as she slowly comes to realise that her 'dreams' are not that at all, but visions. If Uther suspects that she carries magic within her, Morgana would certainly be out casted from Camelot.
