During the early days of baseball and into the mid 20th century most woodworking companies took advantage of the great demand for baseball bats. It was a way of generating extra income for the business especially during tough times brought on by the Great Depression. Small towns depended on mail order, local general or hardware stores for their sporting good needs. Some had had privately branded labels made by the local wood turners or major sporting goods manufactures, resulting in 100's of privately branded labels.
