I inherited a postcard signed by Lou Gehrig from my father, Richard Holmquist, Sr. I wonder what it's worth.
In 1937 my father, then 11, drew a picture of Gehrig and sent it to him. Gehrig sent him a postcard in return, dated Sept. 22, 1937. He wrote:
Best wishes Dick
Lou Gehrig
This card has been kept in a drawer in a protective plastic envelope but was NOT laminated. The card has yellowed somewhat but I would guess it to be in good condition.
I'd be interested in anybody's thoughts about its value.

Hello Richard,

PSA's, SMR price guide has a Lou Gehrig 3x5 index/postcard with an estimated value of about $3,500.

Value will vary based on the grade of the signature, condition of the postcard, overall display "eye appeal" and the type of authenticity that accompanies the signature.

Autographs that are not properly authenticated could sell at half the market value or less. The personal inscription "Best wishes Dick" could lower the value as well. -Steven KeyMan
